Hi Carl,
Thanks for writing. I was about to pay the $25.00 but I had fun as
a tourleader last summer and wouldn't mind doing it again. Can you put
me on the gcbt team as a tourleader or do I have to register myself?
Could you tell me who I have to contact?
I'm at 4800 km, might get a few more before the new year
depending on the amount of snow we get. Are you going to come out ice
skating with tbn on Friday nights? It's "cougar" night every night.
This week is Withrow Park and Greek food afterwards.

Hi Tom and GCBT'ers,
It was good to meet Tom last night. Unfortunately Tom got caught
in a bad traffic jam and didn't meet up with us till we were sitting
down at dinner at the "Spicy Thai". No matter, Tom found himself
sitting opposite 2 very attractive ladies at the end of the table. Hey
Mr. Leyser ;-) maybe
you should come out next time. There were 11 of us at dinner, more than
a dozen skating but some of the tbn'ers were at the rink with another
"meet up" group. Silly me, forgot my camera so no pics.
Next Friday night Dec. 4 we will
skate at Toronto City Hall, Nathan Phillips Square rink, same time
18:00 to 20:00 before heading off for dinner. There is underground
parking at city hall, those taking the ttc, get off at either Queen and
and walk west on Queen or off at Osgoode Hall and walk east on Queen
and you can't miss it. There are skate rentals, heated changerooms and
lockers at city hall. Dinner will be by consensus, either JJ Mugg in
the Eaton Centre or the Pickle Barrel at 312 Yonge just north of
Dundas. City Hall is in old chinatown and I still know a few places to
eat there. Hopefully it will get colder soon and we'll be able to go to
some community rinks in more diverse ethnic enclaves of the city. If I
lead another "Tour of Toronto" bike ride next summer, everyone will
feel more at home in hogtown.

Friday night outdoor ice skating party from Nov. 27 to about St.
Patrick's Day and I am the "Ice Skating Coordinator". I would like to
invite everyone to come out. We skate from about 18:00 to 20:00 and
then go for a late dinner. This is the only event you don't need to be
a member to participate as we skate on public outdoor rinks. Most of
the rinks are free to get in though you'll have to pay for parking at
some rinks.
On Friday Nov. 27 we will start off our season at the Natrel rink
on Queen's Quay west at the bottom of York Street. Cost $9.00 (after
18:00) to park between the Terminal warehouse shops and the DuMaurier
theatre or take any streetcar west from Union Station and get off at
the 4th stop. There are washrooms and skate rentals inside the heated
changeroom. We usually go across the street after skating to either the
"Spicy Thai" or Swiss Chalet. Entrees at the Thai go from $10.00 to
$12.00, my wife and I usually spend about $30.00 for dinner here. There
are fancier places to eat as well.
As ice skating coordinator I will send the next rink info to the
tbn webmaster the day after the skating party. I'll base which rink
we're going to upon what type of food I in the mood for, Greek food
skate at Withrow Park, Italian Food it's either Dufferin Grove or
Giavanni Caboto, Korean will be at Christie Pits, Chinese food almost
anywhere. There will be a few special venues rinks. Cedarena (google

Richmond Hill and Gage Park at Brampton City Hall and of course the
Rideau Canal in Ottawa. If anyone is interested check out the tbn.ca

Just a reminder that Bob Ullman and I are putting together a team to do the Tour for Kids Epic Cycling Tour in August 2010.
The event is a 4 day cycling adventure through some of the most beautiful countryside in Ontario. There are a number of ride options, with something to suit everyone. You can ride for 2 or 4 days - 4 days being Thursday to Sunday, 2 days being Saturday and Sunday only. You can choose the distance that you prefer, to give yourself as much challenge as you want - 100 km, 160 im or 200 km per day, and you can ride different distance each day. So, doing the math, you can do as little as 200 km riding 2 days, or as much as 800 kms riding 4 days.
And it's all for a wonderful cause - giving children with cancer, and perhaps even their families, the chance to experience summer camp without the worry of their illness or medical care. Give kids the chance to just be kids!
The fundraising commitment is $1,000 for the 4-day riders (I beleive it's perhaps $500 for the 2-day riders but I can't seem to find that on the website). The registration fee is $395 for 4-day riders and $295 for 2-day riders - it's all-inclusive for the food (and it's delicious!), accomodations (all indoor) and entertainment (very!). The friends that you make and the memories are free!
Bob and I will be registering a team in January, and we're looking for you to join us on this epic adventure. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Bob (ullman_bob@...) or me (catherine.kwiecien@...). In the meantime, we'd like to hear from you if you're interested. We will arrange a "meeting" in the new year to come together in deciding on a team name and to design a team jersey. So far, we have 6 or 7 riders who are committed already. Why not take the plunge and give yourself a good reason to stay in shape this winter! We'd love to have you join us! And if you don't want to ride, there's always the opportunity to help out by providing financial support.
To find out more, click on the link below ... You might want to check out the testimonials of past riders.

Hi Shirley,
There are 3 rides I could lead but I'll settle for 2 or even 1
if you get a lot of newbie tourleaders who are hot to trot to lead a
ride. I'll list the rides and you can tell me which one(s) you want me
to lead. Pick 2 and the one you don't pick I can do the following year.
Big Chute ride out of Coldwater, unfortunately I
can only do it on Sept. 12 and there is only 1 distance of 82 km. (my
hockey season starts Sept. 19 and I can only come to ride if we play
later than 20:00)
Tour of Toronto, lunch in High Park. Start from
near my house, an arena parking lot opposite a Timmies and Pickle
Barrel on Leslie at Cummer. Long is approximately 100 and I can have 2
shorter distances from 55 to 75 km. I can do this ride either May 2 or 9
Lake Simcoe south shore from my aunt's farm. I can
offer distances of 65, 81 and 100 km. I can do it July 11 or 18. The 81
km ride goes past the Bare Oakes Naturist Resort. :-)
A 4th option which I may or may not be around for
would be the Toronto Bicycling Network picnic August 8. It's always
held the first Sunday after Civic Holiday and it always goes to a bbq
lunch at TooGood Pond park in Unionville. The ride distances vary from
35, 55, 75, 100, 130 to 160, the idea is not to have all the riders
lining up for burgers and dogs at the same time. You will have to pay
the $5.00 dayrider fee which includes the food and all of the rides
start and finish from Finch subway Kiss&Ride on the Yonge line at
10:00, the 130 and 160 rides start at 08:30.

GCBT ride leaders are re-imbursed a flat rate at year's end to cover
tour research, photocopying, etc.
Our mandate is to fill ~30 Sundays between April 4 and October 31st. If
we're fortunate, we will be able to provide some Saturday, Stat holiday
and week-end tour options as well.

ride dates along with the title of your ride.
In the past few months I may have talked to you about hosting a ride,
but please don't rely upon my memory (!!), email me your ride ideas.
Some guiding principles to think about when selecting a date and route
for your ride:
* Early and late season rides tend to be shorter in distance. As the
season progresses, longer distance routes are more suitable.
Historically, 100 km rides start to appear on the calendar around the
2nd or 3rd weekend in May.
* Flatter rides in the spring are recommended until we get our cycling
legs back to take on the hillier terrain in late spring and throughout
the summer and fall.
* Ideally, we like to have 2 to 3 ride distances for each ride.
* If you can schedule your ride date around a festival or community
fair that can add to the interest and attraction for our riders.
* Social gatherings post-ride are encouraged as well (barbeques,
potlucks, pub gatherings, etc.)
* Since holidays are the most difficult dates to fill, I'd appreciate
all help filling these if you can
The following is a list of 2010 Sunday and Stat holiday dates to choose
from:
April 2 (Good Friday), 4 (Easter), 11, 18, 25

Hi Jeff, Don't believe we have met. In 1997 I went on a week long bicycle trip called Cyclone run by a gentleman named George Kramer, not that one. It was a camping/cycling trip supported by Brauns bicycle store in Kitchener and in subsequent years Brauns took it over till 2005. Unfortunately the Brauns family decided it was too much effort for too little return. In my 97 trip, we camped at Baden, Exeter, Wingham, 2 nights at Port Elgin, Walkerton and Palmerston returning to Baden to pick up our cars. I had a great time and there was some very nice cycling every day. If you wanted to lead a tour in your backyard, come to the general meeting and talk to our director of touring Shirley Inglis or just email her, her email is on the website. New trips are always welcomed. I suggest you lay out your ride now before the snow comes so you'll be all ready for next year. If your question is "why should I"? Every tour leader and executive in gcbt is a volunteer, we have no full time employees. We lead rides for the love of cycling. I joined the club in 1995, led my first ride (Lake Simcoe South Shore, 70 and 100 km) in 1996 and have led rides for the club since then. Leading a ride gives you a new perspective on cycling and a good feeling of being a contributing member of gcbt. I look forward to going to one of your rides. Fred Lee p.s. as for your remarks about the mpps' in Toronto, you're giving them too much credit for actually thinking?!

Hi Shirl,
"ESR" seems to be "East Side Riders", who seem to be a speedy bunch (your choice of 30 kph or 27 kph average in a group).
If Jeff actually contacts you, I would suggest fending him off with the following points:
1) many thanks for your interest, etc. 2) preference is given to ride organizers who are active members of GCBT 3) club members seem to prefer rides with hills
If you would rather not deal with that, you can forward any message from him to me and I will respond (after running a draft by you, before sending).

(your choice of 30 kph or 27 kph average in a group).
If Jeff actually contacts you, I would suggest fending him off with the
following points:
1) many thanks for your interest, etc.
2) preference is given to ride organizers who are active members of GCBT
3) club members seem to prefer rides with hills
If you would rather not deal with that, you can forward any message from
him to me and I will respond (after running a draft by you, before sending).
