I'm not going till Friday the 20th. At this time I've got my bike apart and can't figure out how to put everything into the box I got from my bike shop. I'm going to take everything to him tomorrow and pay for his labor to get it in and show me how to do it. It's a good thing I'm on afternoon shift this week. I've just finished class 8 of 9 bike repair at Leaside High School Monday nights. We should have finished it by now but forgot about Family Day, examinations in Feb. and spring break so the last class will be after I'm in California. No matter, I've learned enough to repack my front wheel, (new cones and bearings) change over a gear cable, repack my rear wheel, change over 9 rear spokes, true the wheel, change the rear cassette and chain. Was supposed to take out my bottom bracket for inspection but the instructor didn't have the Trek specific extractor tool. I'm no bike mechanic but now I'm comfortable going for a loaded bike tour into the boonies and not worrying about anything breaking. Before I only knew how to fix a flat and some minor tinkering. The last class was to have been a general review and he was going to show us how to rewrap the handlebar. The instructor is Narayani Reddi, a mechanic engineer who works part time at MEC. The course cost me $170.00, worth every cent, class time was 18:30 to 21:30 and normally night classes break at 20;00 but Nani starts talking at the start of the class and doesn't stop till it's time to go home. If you got go pee, you'll miss something.
I'll be back on the 31st, hope it's nice riding weather when I get back.
