Hey, GCBT club members and associated hangers-on:
Well, it's mid-February, the snow is falling and the temperature is plummeting toward record lows. And that can mean only one thing: It's the beginning of cycling season!
At our Annual General Meeting this past Sunday, the club elected a new slate of directors. These directors are brave, yet naïve souls, willing to risk life and limb to bring you another season of day rides, weekend tours, repair clinics and mud wrestling matches (new for 2008). Without further ado, I bring you the new GCBT executive team:
President: Preston "Devinci Code" Gurd. Strong, intelligent, witty, capable, yet ever-so-slightly insane: Because, let's face it, he accepted the nomination for President. The election was hard-won, with a surprisingly strong showing by Petey "Hillary Clinton" Siniowski, a write-in candidate. Fortunately for all, Petey hasn't yet learned how to write.
V.P. Administration/Membership: Don "R2000" Yellow. With eagle-eyed efficiency, Don will whip the administration post into shape in no time, after it was left in disarray by the previous office-holder. I'm kidding, of course! There's no way he'll be able to clean up that mess.
Secretary-Treasurer: John "Pennyfarthing" Hesse. What can we say about John that hasn't been said in all those depositions made during the Enron scandal? Seriously. Nothing. It's part of the negotiated settlement.
Director of Touring: Peter "Mattel Big Wheel" Leyser. Ah, Peter. With his box of crayons at the ready, he's promised to make this year's schedule the most colourful yet. Ummm… that's great. Really, really great.
Director at Large: Elizabeth "Don't call me the Large Director" Bluemke. An intelligent, incisive, decisive, divisive, extroverted, introverted, tall, blonde (not really), German powerhouse, with a penchant for order and efficiency. Yet soft and cuddly, especially on Thursday nights. It's OK. I can say this: She's my wife.
Director of Marketing: John "Ball Bearings of Steel" Bennett. You already know what adjectives apply to me, so I'll keep my mouth shut. Must. Keep. Mouth. Shut.
So, there you have it. A new team, a new year, a new schedule of great rides, and new excitement. The club touring schedule will be finalized in the next few weeks, so watch this space for more information.
As always, keep your cards and letters coming. Bricks should be wrapped in newspaper.
John Bennett,
GCBT Marketing
