Vince Kelly - Extract from a RLCM Yearbook .....in regard to recovery, the club usually looks to implement different recovery novelties for different sessions. During a conditioning session where the team may have some sort of fluid or fuel replacement or for a strength session, replacing supplements is a priority.
They might have a different recovery mechanism, for example, an ice bath to allow players to freshen up when they have training twice on the same day.
Having an ice bath in the morning allows the body to begin restoring nutrients and dissipating lactic acids in the system to prevent soreness and swelling.
Generally, the team's routine would not change dramatically during a season.
The most important part of their training is to ensure they are fresh for their next game. If anything, the support staff will make adjustments to the volume of the sessions.
Instead of lasting sixty minutes, the session may be cut back to forty or forty-five minutes.
The secret to success is establishing the right formula for your team - an equal balance of strength, speed and weight training, mixed with conditioning and recovery will best prepare the squad for the season ahead.
By testing their physical limitations, players will be forced to maintain an optimum level of fitness at all times, which will ensure they are at their best on game day.

Fighting won't be tolerated: McCallum
NRL match review committee chairman Greg McCallum has warned players that fighting will not be tolerated despite the positive publicity following last week's spiteful State of Origin finale.
Campbell may play hooker for Titans
Titans whiz Preston Campbell is poised for a shock dummy-half cameo against the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night. Mainstay No.9 Nathan Friend remains in doubt after injuring his right ankle against the Bulldogs.
Gold Coast coach John Cartwright is likely to call upon two players to fill Friend's massive workload with teenager Kayne Lawton, who trained at hooker yesterday in a tussle with Ian Lacey to assist Campbell.
Knights shrug off Smith's departure
Brian Smith said yesterday he might have decided to stay at the Newcastle Knights beyond this season had they offered him a long-term contract extension in January.
Gilly's titanic tackle session
When the Titans hit the sand today, it won't be for a holiday. The Gold Coast will be punished in the sandpit as part of a `tackling master class' orchestrated by their defence coach Trevor Gillmeister.
Leaders back Lawton to step up for their injured Friend
Two of the Titans' most senior men, John Cartwright and Luke Bailey, yesterday endorsed youngster Kayne Lawton to replace Nathan Friend if the in-form rake is ruled out of Friday's local derby.
Matt Geyer was `mystery' signing
Former Melbourne Storm star Matt Geyer is believed to be the mystery man who was on the cusp of signing with the Gold Coast Titans.
Widnes eye Super League licence
Widnes chairman Steve O'Connor says the Vikings are determined to win a Super League franchise licence for 2012. Widnes controversially lost out to Welsh region Celtic Crusaders for the first ever three-year licence system, but O'Connor has admitted there were a few weaknesses in their original application.
Keiron Cunningham cautioned
St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham has been cautioned after an incident which left Wakefield's James Stosic with a broken eye socket during Friday night's surprise defeat.
Matthew Johns in the mix to coach Newcastle Knights
Matthew Johns is still a favourite son at Newcastle and now the disgraced Nine Network personality could be poised to make a remarkable return to the club and the game after being linked to the coaching job. The Australian was told last night by a source in the Newcastle camp that Johns was definitely interested in taking on the position as first grade coach.
Wakefield sign Terry Newton
Wakefield have confirmed the signing of Terry Newton on a two-year deal.
Smith always on the outer with Knights
Newcastle directors seriously considered sacking Brian Smith when he informed them he would abandon the final year of his contract to coach the Roosters next season. After all, life after Smith would not be too catastrophic.
Biff is a different ball game post-Origin
The NRL match review committee has moved quickly to douse the passions ignited by last week's furious State of Origin encounter, charging Robbie Farah and Anthony Watts with striking after Sunday's game between Wests Tigers and the North Queensland Cowboys.
Parramatta 18 Storm 16
Melbourne is clinging grimly to its place in rugby league's all-important top four after a bedraggled Storm was toppled 18-16 by lowly Parramatta last night. Craig Bellamy's side went into the clash without the injured Brett Finch and Cameron Smith, lost Dallas Johnson and Ryan Hoffman in the second half and carried a host of other wounded stars following the state-of-origin series.
