Jamie Peacock say Leeds have nothing to prove - Leeds captain Jamie Peacock has called for an end to the bickering ahead of Sunday's Carnegie World Club Challenge. QRL fee dispute leaves rising star Daniel Sleeman sidelined - Representing Queensland was all Daniel Sleeman ever dreamed of, but now one game off the bench for the Maroons under-17s in 2007 and a bureaucratic bun-fight threaten to stall his rugby league career. Castleford Tigers have been forced into changing their 19-man squad this week with prop Liam Higgins ruled out of the engage Super League clash against Salford at the Jungle on Saturday (KO 6.00). Higgins whose pre and early season form has been very impressive suffered a knee injury in last weeks win at Wigan and could be out for up to 4 weeks.

Sharks looking to catch try-line fever - Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart has gone on the attack during the pre-season in a bid to reinvigorate 2008's most impotent NRL outfit. Coach Lowes to give Warrington players a chance to make amends - Warrington coach James Lowes will give his under-performing players a chance to make amends for their woeful start to the engage Super League season. The Wolves have frittered away winning positions in both matches so far and last Saturday's 40-20 home loss to Catalans Dragons was their seventh defeat in a row going back to last August.

Friday's RLCM Extract - Junior player Development Program an RLCM Extract from eBook 2 - The concept of a junior player development programme has been mentioned in previous editions of this magazine. The following programme is put forward as a guide to encourage clubs to use it and produce a base from which to work.
The overall development of skills in junior players should be uppermost in the thoughts of their coaches. This development must commence in the mini-footy ages and progress as the players go through the age groups.
To achieve this development it is necessary to work to a syllabus so that each age group coach will know what should be taught. A syllabus will outline and identify the appropriate skills for each age group.
The coaches role is to apply this syllabus and ensure the players under their control learn, practice and become proficient at the skills. As each age group achieves its aims and goals the players can progress into the next year with a well established skill base.
The aim of the development would be to produce a skilful player at around age seventeen to allow and encourage them to proceed toward senior football.
Players who have developed good skills and possess a wide range of skills will become more confident to play at a high level.
The overall goal in this programme is to produce players who are able to play an attractive style of Rugby League that gives them personal satisfaction and produces a good spectacle for the spectators.
The functioning of such a system lies within each club to implement it and then encourage its coaches through the club coaching director to ensure its success.
The choice of drills to use in teaching each skill will depend on the coaching sessions at the time and there are numerous resources available to access the drills for inclusion in the coaching session.

Wednesday's RLCM Extract with Craig Coleman from Coachtalk Yearbook 2000 - ".........it is the same for defence; we put our nine top defenders against maybe 13 attackers and try to shut down the ball down without the offence breaching the line.
