Meninga's bid to coach Kangaroos gets new life - The window of opportunity for Mal Meninga to be appointed Australian coach - previously slammed shut - is back open, with NSW-based ARL board member John Chalk saying he is prepared to consider the argument put forward by the QRL on Meninga's behalf.

PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare supports NRL bid - Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has endorsed the country's bid to enter the Australian Rugby League competition, the NRL. The National Executive Council has endorsed a bid team which will include the man behind the Gold Coast Titan's successful campaign, Paul Broughton, and QLD Maroons coach, Mal Meninga.

Manly CEO Grant Mayer questions Super League standard - Super League came under fire on two fronts on Wednesday in the build-up to the Carnegie World Club Challenge between Leeds Rhinos and Australian champions Manly Sea Eagles. Manly chief executive Grant Mayer, the man who spearheaded Catalans Dragons' entry into Super League in 2006, labelled the English competition "second tier", a view echoed by one of Australia's leading coaches.

Melbourne expansion plans cloudy: NRL - Establishing a second Melbourne team would fall a distant fifth behind places such as Perth and Adelaide if the NRL goes ahead with plans to expand the 16-team competition. Despite the success of the Storm both on and off the field, NRL boss David Gallop declared other areas a bigger priority for any possible new teams.

Registrations opened Monday with over $20,000 of prizes on offer, including a $10,000 NAB iSaver Account for the winner.
