Future in doubt as Manly Sea Eagles go to war - Manly's long-term future was sensationally thrown into disarray last night after a board meeting where the two owners clashed heatedly and chief executive Grant Mayer announced he would resign. The Daily Telegraph understands Mayer was pushed into quitting after the board voted 5-2 against re-appointing him for a further two years. He will leave at the end of this year.

Newcastle Knights - Bushfire Appeal - Rugby League fans are urged to support the victims of the Victorian bushfire disaster this Saturday when the Newcastle Knights launch their 2009 season campaign at Charlestown's St John Oval. An appeal will be held for the people affected by Australia's worst natural disaster with volunteers from the Rural Fire Service assisting with fundraising throughout the day.

Gold Coast Titans set for Harold Matthews debut - History will be created this weekend when the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans' under-16s representative side makes its debut in the Harold Matthews competition in Sydney. The new-look under-16s squad will join the Titans' SG Ball (under-18s) side in travelling to Sydney to tackle the Western Suburbs Magpies at Hillier Oval, Liverpool on Saturday in the opening round of their respective junior competitions.

Greg Mitchell and Brian Canavan at NSWRL Western Sydney Academy - Rugby League's bond with western Sydney strengthened this week as the staff of a re-structured and re-located Western Sydney Academy started work from their new office at CUA Stadium in Penrith. The result of a NRL, NSWRL Academy and ARL Development taskforce formed last year - the Integral Energy NSWRL Western Sydney Academy has already begun building on western Sydney's Rugby League playing base of more than 20,000 juniors.
