Happy new year from the Czech Association of Rugby League - Last year was the biggest to date in the world's fastest-growing Rugby League nation. 2008 began with the Czech Republic's first club, Beroun Black Panthers, appearing at the Heidelberg 9s in Germany, before welcoming junior teams Folly Lane, Crigglestone All Blacks, Halton Farnworth Hornets and Gateshead Panthers to play at the Beroun juniors in Beroun. Huddersfield may be forced to pull out of Todd Carney deal - The 22-year-old Carney, who signed for the Giants after being sacked by Canberra Raiders last summer following a series of alcohol-related incidents, applied for his visa in October and was due to link up with the Super League club a week ago but is still being held up by red tape. Dragons to kindle NRL fire in Western Australia - In the far-flung rugby league outpost of Western Australia, the torch still burns for a return to the NRL. The Western Reds have risen from the ashes of the Super League war to return to the NSW Rugby League third-tier competition, but Reds director Richard Campbell is adamant it is a stepping stone to bigger things. Harlequins Rugby League announce Board changes - Harlequins announce the resignation of Keith Hogg as Chairman. He will be replaced as Chairman by long term shareholder, investor and supporter of rugby league in London, David Hughes. Read more..
Devoted coach John Dixon in league of his own - John Dixon was a proud man when his Queensland Universities rugby league team tackled Great Britain in a "Test" at Hull's Boulevard Ground in 2001. There were only about 500 spectators, but it gave Dixon a huge thrill to see his students from Brisbane, Townsville, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast singing the national anthem before doing their best for the Maroon jersey. 'Master' Speaker for QRL Northern Admin Conference - Respected rugby league identity Roy Masters will share his expert views on the state of the game at the inaugural QRL Northern Admin Conference in 2009. Masters, a former Western Suburbs coach and leading Sydney journalist, is one of the headline acts for the February 7-8 Conference in Townsville. The Gold Coast Admin Conference at the Radisson Resort will again be back bigger and better in 2009, with Warren Ryan one of the speakers for the February 14-15 event.
