Rhinos will restore credibility - Gary Hetherington - Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has revealed the Super League champions are determined to help restore the credibility of the British game in the wake of England's disastrous World Cup performance. The Rhinos are looking to become the first team to win three championships in a row in the summer era but firstly will be aiming to restore pride in northern hemisphere rugby league when they take on Australian champions Manly Sea Eagles at Elland Road on March 1.

Lebanese Rugby League conduct a training camp for 150 children - The Lebanese Rugby League Committee conducted a day's training camp on Sunday 30th November at Balamand University, attended by over 150 children from north Lebanon. The camp, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, was the latest step in the LRLC's push to develop rugby league in the country's schools.

BARLA ban Blades for 2009 - The BARLA Board of Management at their board meeting at West Yorkshire House, Huddersfield on Thursday 20th November have voted unanimously on health and safety grounds to ban the wearing of 'bladed' boots in all BARLA games from 1st January 2009. For the avoidance of doubt this means bladed sole style boots of any description whether moulded, plastic or metal.

Castleford Tigers name 2009 squad - Castleford Tigers boss Terry Matterson has issued his 2009 squad numbers, although the message from Terry is as before: "Don't read too much into them, everyone in the squad will earn a place in the matchday seventeen on merit, regardless of their squad number."

QRL confirm 12 a team Queensland Cup - The Queensland Rugby League (QRL) Board has today confirmed that 12 teams will take part in the 2009 Queensland Cup competition. The teams, which were granted conditional entry in September, were given the final tick of approval today by the Board following an extensive review of submissions.

QRL announce Emerging Origin Squad - The 14-man Squad includes some of the most impressive young talent in the National Rugby League. The Squad, which includes five players from the Brisbane Broncos, will join the XXXX Queensland Maroons at various stages throughout next year's Harvey Norman State of Origin campaign.

New club in Pardubice Czech Republic - The Czech Rugby League Association has announced the formation of a new club in Pardubice, which is set to make its debut in their domestic championship when it commences next spring. The Eastern Bohemian town with a population of around 90,000 is best known for the production of the plastic explosive Semtex, delicious frosted gingerbread and a series of formidable ice-hockey teams who have been consistently outstanding over a long period in their national competition.

NSWRL re-elect Colin Love AM as Chairman - The General Committee of the NSW Rugby League has today re-elected Colin Love AM as Chairman for the 2009 season. This will be Mr Love's 11th year in the position. Several speakers from the General Committee of the NSW Rugby League congratulated the Board on its Centenary year and were high in their praise for the just completed Rugby League World Cup.

North Sydney Bears launch golden bid for Central Coast inclusion - North Sydney Bears have launched a new campaign to rejoin the NRL as a Central Coast side and yesterday stepped up their campaign for inclusion in the 2011 premiership when chief executive Greg Florimo met Gold Coast Titans boss Michael Searle.

Rugby league's fastest man - A Tribute to Ken Irvine - The fastest NRL player to contest the 2009 premiership will be known early next month at North Sydney Oval with staging of the URM Rugby League's Fastest Man Sprint over 100 yards carrying $10,000.00 in prize money. The rugby league players race is one of the three feature events on the inaugural North Sydney Sprint Classic Carnival to be held on Friday Night December 12 as a tribute to North Sydney's favourite sportsman Ken Irvine who successfully combined athletics and rugby league all time record 212 tries in his career.

We are looking to bolster the squad with quality players who have First Division experience or either played representative level as the standard is very high within this competition.
