East Leeds 13 West Hull 6 - East Leeds maintained their fine start to the campaign, moving up to third spot, with a hard fought win over Wests in a terrific, no-holds-barred clash. It took a drop goal a minute from time by home stand off Luke Tomlinson to split the sides after the hosts had missed shots at goal to all three of their touchdowns.

Kevin Moore embraces new Bulldogs era - On the eve of officially becoming the Bulldogs head coach today, Kevin Moore declared: "I'm ready for the challenge." Moore's declaration came as the Bulldogs' greatest player, Steve Mortimer, last night predicted his former club would reach the 2009 semi-finals. The Bulldogs - still shattered at claiming last season's wooden spoon - return to training at 9am today at Homebush.

Australia 52 England 4 - Australia look well on the way to an eighth straight Rugby League World Cup title after demolishing England 52-4 in their pool match at Melbourne's Telstra Dome. A week trouncing New Zealand - the other side expected to challenge them for the crown - the Kangaroos again looked a class above as they ran in nine tries to one, Storm pair Greg Inglis and Billy Slater delighting their home fans with hat-tricks.

NZ Kiwis 48 PNG Kumuls 6 - The sight of star playmaker Benji Marshall recovering on the sidelines couldn't wipe the smile off New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney's face as the Kiwis broke their World Cup duck with a 48-6 win over PNG.
