Coaching and Development Officers for Roma and the Central Highlands A COMMITMENT to strengthening the grassroots presence of rugby league in Queensland's rural sector will see new coaching and development officers positioned at both Roma and the Central Highlands.
Jointly funded by the Queensland Rugby League and Australian Rugby League Development, the roles mirror a recent appointment in Mount Isa.
While instant benefits will be noticeable in the areas surrounding Roma and the Central Highlands, there will also be flow-on effects for other areas.
Existing staff are to be freed up to concentrate on major centres, at the same time complementing and assisting the work of the new officers.
QRL Education and Development Manager Robert Moore anticipates the greater community presence will ensure rugby league remains the number one winter sport in Queensland, building on a terrific year for the code.
"We will now have the interior of Queensland covered like never before," Moore said.
"All of our current coaching and development staff are highly skilled and motivated individuals and we'll be seeking similar people for these two important roles."
Successful applicants will play a key role in developing the sport, with a chance to leave a legacy on the long-term performance of these areas.
Responsibilities include day-to-day education and the formulation of specialised development programs.
Position descriptions will be available from the Downloads section of the QRL website www.qrl.com.au Further enquiries can be directed to Robert Moore on (07) 3393 2222.
To pursue these opportunities in strictest confidence email your resume, including a response to the selection criteria, to r.moore@... Applications close 5pm on Friday, December 15, 2006.

101 Coaching Tips Reprinted with permission of the Australian Sports Commission By Les Bee, Wayne Goldsmith, Mike Keelan and Warwick Povey
It takes 20 years to become an overnight success. Successful coaches have a combination of experience, skill, education and practice, developed ways and means of getting the best out of themselves and their athletes.
Here are 101 Coaching tips to help you achieve your coaching goals.
Continued from last week
49. Subscribe to RLCM!!!
50. Do your homework. Know the strengths and weaknesses of your athletes, yourself, your opposition. Know the standards - what are the world records, national records, state records, regional records, club records - what are your goals?
51. Look to help athletes achieve their best - no matter what that level is. Not all athletes want to be the world champion.
52. Be innovative. Be creative. Dare to be different.
53. Try not to overcoach. You don't need to talk all the time.
54. Never lose confidence in yourself. You can do it!
55. Encourage your athlete to have ownership of the program.
56. Maintain good appearance - look like a professional.
57. Technology is your ally not your enemy. Use it wisely.
58. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Mental toughness is still a key component of competition.
59. Adopt the D.R.A.M.A. approach, 'Do, Record, Analyse, Modify, Act.'
60. Confront problems calmly by talking directly with the athlete - don't rely on rumour.
