The Newcastle Knights are a professional and dynamic organisation playing in the elite National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
The club is currently seeking to recruit a unique individual with a strong Rugby League background to join our team as Recruitment & Welfare Manager.
This rewarding new position has two distinct functions. The first entails the identification of talented footballers and assisting in the recruitment of both senior and junior players.
The successful applicant would be expected to have a detailed knowledge of the game and its positional demands, and would be skilled in identifying players who are capable of meeting those demands.
The secondary role is to provide assistance to players as required in areas such as relocation, employment, education and personal welfare matters. The desired applicant will also possess broad interpersonal interrelationship skills for rapport building at all levels, high personal integrity and excellent communication skills.
Suitable candidates will have experience in the following:
· Thorough knowledge of the skills and physical attributes required for Rugby League. · Proven ability to identify talented Rugby League players. · Experience with use of database and data management programs. · An existing network of contacts and associates within Rugby League. · Good knowledge of the (financial) market for Rugby League players. · Level I Coaching Certificate (minimum requirement). · Ability to communicate information in a timely and accurate manner. · Experience in dealing with minors.
Extensive travelling will be required as part of this role, including weekends.
Bradford 30 defeated West Tigers 10 at Huddersfield on Friday night.
The game gave more evidence to the fact that the NRL champion team that travels to the UK has to overcome too many obstacles to be competitive at this level of the game. The rationale behind this is the lack of preparation, the travel, jet lag, and the weather.
However, nothing can be taken away from Bradford's win. They dominated their field position and controlled Wests Tigers' field position. Overall, they were too big, too talented and too strong for their smaller opponents.
Bradford played to a simple plan of gaining yards through the middle with their big men. Their many offloads then found back up runners, resulting in quick play the balls giving them positive time in the Wests Tigers' half.
Coach Sheens would have been fully aware of the problems facing the visitors and devised a game plan that he thought might have the Super League champions guessing as to what the Wests Tigers might do next. Unfortunately, nothing spectacular came of the style of play that they showed.
Plays that West Tigers found successful during 2005, such as kicking on the third and fourth tackles, kicking short and occasionally running on fifth plays all backfired on the NRL champions. This resulted in them having negative field position for the majority of the game.
The visitors, for the most part, entered Bradford's half by receiving penalties or from the mistakes made by the home team. They rarely got there through creative play.
As an early form guide for the 2006 season, it is hard to evaluate how either team will fare during their respective seasons.
If it could be said that Bradford were superb, it must be taken into consideration how poorly the opposition played, but as current Super League champions it would be expected that they will be in the top part of the ladder throughout the year.
The West Tigers could find reasons for such a poor performance and history shows that other NRL premiership teams have also struggled with this game, so it is hard to judge them on this performance.
Tim Sheens' game plan may not have been successful on a wet, cold and greasy field with short in goal areas in a one off game, so perhaps it would be better to wait and see before being too critical of the 2005 NRL premiers.
However, a game is a game and there was a winner. The Bradford Bulls' players, coaching staff and supporters are to be congratulated on being the World Club Champions.
Another salient point to come out of the game is that Stuart Fielden is an outstanding player.

Football Parents, Support, Smiles and Sporting Success.

These are the most common questions asked by sporting parents:
QUESTION 2:
When should a child specialise in a sport, event or position?
Answer:
There is no such thing as a ten year old champion winger or lock or hooker.
The "child champion" is merely someone who for reasons of growth and development plays one position a little better than another.
However this year's winger could be next year's fullback and in two years the same player might be a second rower.
The tendency is that when a child is bigger and stronger than the other players at the same age, parents and coaches sometimes place unreasonable expectations on them.
All coaches have stories to tell about the 12 year old who scored 100 tries in a season, yet didn't ever make it to top grade.
This year's champ is often next year's chump.
As size and strength factors even up in the mid to late teens, often these early maturers are frustrated by the fact they can no longer dominate teams the way they did when they were younger.
In the long term, size and strength are not the key determinants of success.
Look at players like Sterling, Lamb, Langer, Stuart, Toovey etc who have been outstanding successes at all levels of the game.
The key elements of success in the long term are:
· Skills · Confidence · A positive attitude · The ability to deal with adversity and tough times
Key comment: LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT is the key to success. Continued Tuesday
