SYDNEY - New Kangaroos coach Ricky Stuart has wasted no time plotting Australia's league redemption.
Although the National Rugby League kick-off is seven weeks away and the Anzac test a blip on the horizon, Stuart has put players on notice that they are under consideration for the May 5 test at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, where Australia hope to avenge their Tri-Nations title loss to the Kiwis last November.
Stuart has named an initial 40-man squad to meet in Sydney next weekend, including many established internationals. But he has also got an eye for the future by naming promising players including Anthony Tupou (Roosters) and Melbourne teenager Greg Inglis.
Inglis, who turned 19 this week, was also named by selectors in a squad for an emerging Queensland State of Origin camp.
The fullback made his first-grade debut only last season, appearing in 13 games for the Storm alongside rookie Kiwis' wing Jake Webster.
Inglis was one of five Melbourne players named in the squad, alongside Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Michael Crocker and Matt King.
Brisbane had four players - Darren Lockyer, Petero Civoniceva, Brent Tate and Shaun Berrigan - selected but they have already been ruled out by club officials as it clashes with a camp the club has already scheduled.
Andrew Johns, Penrith half Craig Gower and Knights hooker Danny Buderus are also unavailable and players from Wests Tigers were excluded as they will be in England for the World Club Challenge.
Notable inclusions were Cronulla prop Ben Ross, Penrith fullback Rhys Wesser and Sydney Roosters' Braith Anasta and Ashley Harrison.
Cronulla halfback Brett Kimmorley, dropped after the opening game of last year's Origin series, has also been named.
SUPER League champion Bradford Bulls has completed an impressive warm-up for next week's world club challenge with Wests Tigers. .
The Bulls, who return to the Galpharm Stadium for their meeting with the NRL premier on Friday week, were led superbly by new captain Iestyn Harris in their first major pre-season clash.
Even without rested trio Paul Deacon, Lesley Vainikolo and new signing Stanley Gene, the champion was too strong for a generally disappointing Giants team, for whichm ex-Bradford favourite Robbie Paul made a quiet debut.
Former Melbourne winger Marcus Bai marked his first appearance for the Bulls with a try but the star performer, with a try in each half, was New Zealand Test centre Shontayne Hape, who picked up from where he left in November's Tri-Nations triumph.
Bradford had the game sewn up at half time when it led 22-0 thanks to tries from Bai, Hape, hooker Ian Henderson and substitute Brett Ferres, with Harris kicking four conversions.
Huddersfield, which also had Albert Torrens, Martin Aspinwall, Stephen Wilde, Steve Snitch and Matt Gardner making their first appearances, suffered from a chronic shortage of ideas near the visitor's line.

"I believe all clubs and coaches at all levels should have a copy of RLCM Books as a coaching resource" Wayne Bennett - Brisbane Broncos
Mental Toughness Without The Mental.
With Steve Anderson
Chris Anderson sees it as a result of the work done pre-season and during the season. He talks of the pressure constantly being put on players in training, developing into their being able to handle pressure in a game.
Peter Sharp sees it as disciplined control. In the game situation he equates it to experience, patience, not panicking in tight situations.
Tony Kemp sees it as preparation and consistency. He talks of players being out on the field each week and performing consistently in a tough arena.
Steve Anderson sees it as 'all of the above'.
The 'it' in question is Mental Toughness.
RLCM talked to Steve, former Assistant Coach of Melbourne Storm and the Kangaroos about his take on the subject.
He began by saying that it was a topic that was too broad to define.
"It may mean different things to different people," he said. "To one player it might mean something different to another player beside him."
However, Steve got his definition down to one word, and that word, preparation, was a common thread in the conversations of the other gentleman mentioned above when asked about the subject.
In fact, Steve went on to say that he has dropped the word 'mental' from his talks on the subject because it makes it too complicated when it is not that complicated at all.
"I think it is an acquired skill," he said. "It comes through years of playing. It comes to those who work very hard on their preparation and it's developed over years and years of playing the game at a very physical level."
