RLCM 'Everyday' Coaching Quote for Wednesday a collection from Jack
Gibson's new book Last Word

* Enjoy friends like flowers, but never cut them.
* Nothing is easy but it becomes difficult when done reluctantly.
* Winning teams are not coached by pessimists.
* Win without boasting, lose without an excuse.
* No one ever drowned in sweat.
* Test your strength by lifting a burden off another's shoulders.
* Don't try to perform beyond your abilities - but never perform
below them.
* No one is as tired as the person who does nothing.
* If you don't know where you're going, when you get there you'll be
lost.
* Life isn't a dress rehearsal.

Readers can purchase Last Word online by clicking

In The Last Word, Jack Gibson, rugby league's greatest coach gives
the ultimate verdict on what it takes to be a winner.

Jack Gibson tells us about his experiences amassed over forty years
as a player, coach and mentor.

This book features material from his diaries and scrapbooks (which
include quotes and opinions from some of sport's greatest thinkers)
and a collection of yarns, many of them outrageously funny, about
football and footballers such as Artie Beetson, Peter Sterling and
Mick Cronin some of the biggest names from the recent 'golden
days' of rugby league.

From leadership to mateship, Gibson reveals how he motivates his
players, the value of hard work and the necessity of honesty.

He discusses the importance of perfect preparation and self-
discipline, and how the values that are essential for a coach can be
applied to business and family life as well.

A small book of profound weight The Last Word is a unique combination
of wisdom and humour and has the potential to change lives.

Lockyer admits backs are problem

Steve Ricketts

BRONCOS fullback Darren Lockyer yesterday conceded the backs had been
failing the forwards as the club's premiership hopes nosedived in the
run home to the NRL finals.

Lockyer said the forwards had been "great all year" but the backline
had not fired during Brisbane's six-match losing streak.

"It's the backs' job to score points and we haven't done that," he
said. "I think we obviously need to pick up the slack a little bit.
But combinations take a little longer to work in the backs whereas
the forwards work for each other."

The Broncos' lack of finishing has been highlighted by statistics
that show they make more ground in attack than any other team and are
the NRL's least penalised team, but they are 13th on the tryscoring
list.

They are also ranked second in line breaks and fourth in tackle
breaks. But the most damning statistics are the Broncos' red-zone
conversion rates (the number of tries scored per 100 play-the-balls
in the opposition 20m zone) and their tries from kicks and turnovers.

In both areas the Broncos are last.

SPORTS PERFORMER allows a coach to be objective about the game and
his players' performance because he is dealing with visible facts and
gathering specific data on what he feels is important.

Whether it is tackles, hit-ups or passes, the coach is able to pin
point the involvement of any player without the cumbersome video
play/pause/rewind and physical recording methods of the past.

The SPORTS PERFORMER will isolate - any statistic, players, plays,
events in the game or whatever a coach requires.

Any part of the game can be recorded and analyzed in detail eg.
analyzing a teams decision making on the fourth, fifth or sixth
plays, analyzing an oppositions defense on the short side in their
red zone.
