Is AUS$2500+tax in your budget for a Video Data Analysis System?

The common denominator that linked all interested parties at the
Football Expo and the recent RLCM presentations on the Gold Coast and
Brisbane was the simplicity and the affordable price of SPORTS
PERFORMER.

The SPORTS PERFORMER software is priced at AUS$2500.00+tax.

The SPORTS PERFORMER will isolate - any event, players, plays, in the
game or whatever a coach requires. Any part of the game can be
recorded and analysed in detail eg. analysing a teams decision making
on the fourth, fifth or sixth plays, analysing an oppositions defence
on the short side in their red zone, the list can go indefinitely of
what the coach wants.

Lag time is decided before capturing the event, say two seconds
before the event and then runs for whatever time is required after
the event, before moving to the next event or play that was tagged
for review.

The events tagged can then be reviewed at normal, slow speed or frame
by frame.

SPORTS PERFORMER is capable of capturing whatever the coach or the
club needs to review just by a simple click on the keyboard.

The data can be saved forever, reviewed at anytime, a CD or VHS video
can be made stored or given to the player and can be added to each
week.

The software will assist in building performance and technique, a
coach can isolate a player and review him on a weekly, monthly or
season basis and the data saved on the hard drive, a CD or on
videotape.

Innovative coaches gain the edge with their in-depth knowledge of
opposition players' body movements - their strengths, weaknesses and
style, and of the team's defence patterns and attacking strategies.

The cost for studious coaches or clubs, who are not in the
professional bracket, to have access to a video data analysis system
and the information a system can provide has always been too
prohibitive, now with Sports Performer that barrier has now been
broken down.

Rugby League people have developed the SPORT PERFORMER for coaches
and clubs worldwide.

The orders from several high profile rugby league organisations from
Football Expo and from presentations on the Gold Coast and in
Brisbane are encouraging for the developers.

NRL Club News with the SMH - Friday

By Steve Mascord

Five-eighth Ben Walker has again been ruled out of Manly's team due
to the after-effects of concussion and a neck injury. He will undergo
extensive scans if he has not improved by this time next week.

Walker, who was dazed and jarred his neck when he was dumped in a
tackle three weeks ago, did not travel to Auckland yesterday. "Ben
trained OK this week but yesterday he started getting headaches
again," said Sea Eagles football manager Peter Peters. "The doctor
believes he's improving but if he is still getting the headaches next
week he'll have some more MRI scans. The ones he's already had didn't
show anything."

Luke Dorn is his replacement in coach Peter Sharp's starting side for
tomorrow night's game against the Warriors.

Matt Hill has been added to the bench to give Sharp added
flexibility, with Mark Shipway staying behind in Sydney.

Fullback Brendon Reeves has overcome some niggling injuries and will
play.

A knee injury suffered against North Queensland last Saturday night
has ruled second-rower Logan Swann out of the Warriors' team for the
Ericsson Stadium tussle.

"He trained yesterday but he couldn't finish tonight's session,"
coach Daniel Anderson said. "Karl Temata comes into the squad . . .
Wairangi Koopu will start."

For tonight's opening game of Round 18, Brisbane have omitted Phil
Lee and Barry Berrigan from a six-man bench named for the Suncorp
Stadium clash with the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs spokesman Brad Clyde said only the nominated 17 players had
travelled to Brisbane and there would be no changes.

Penrith hooker Luke Priddis (flu) and interchange forward Trent
Waterhouse (calf) will be checked at training today ahead of tomorrow
night's home game against Souths. Waterhouse hasn't trained all week;
Priddis is expected to be OK.

South Sydney interchange forward Frank Puletua is in doubt for the
Penrith Stadium match-up. "He strained his quad a couple of weeks ago
and it's getting worse," said coach Paul Langmack, who named five
reserves.

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy will finalise his side to play North
Queensland at Olympic Park after training tonight - he is yet to trim
his bench and other changes would not surprise.

North Queensland, with three players unavailable due to Origin
commitments, don't anticipate late alterations. Jacob Lillyman will
be the travelling emergency for tomorrow night's match.

Prop John Skandalis has overcome a back problem, meaning Steve
Trindall is likely to be left off the Wests Tigers bench for Sunday's
Leichhardt Oval game against Cronulla.

Cronulla's stand-in halfback, Andrew Dallalana, gets his last chance
to impress before the return from a broken jaw of Brett Kimmorley.
But Dallalana needn't despair as he is likely to win a full-time
contract with the club next season.

The Sharks are excited about 18-year-old Cronulla-Caringbah junior
Russell Aitken, who makes his debut on Sunday.

St George Illawarra's man of the moment, hooker Mark Riddell, missed
training yesterday with a virus. Coaching staff expect him to be well
enough to play against Canberra on Sunday at Kogarah Oval.

Canberra coach Matthew Elliott will omit one of Sean Rutgerson, Alan
Tongue, Tyran Smith and Michael Hodgson from his squad. It wouldn't
surprise to see Michael Monaghan start the game, with Mark McLinden
on the bench or at five-eighth.

$2.8m sacrifice

By DEAN RITCHIE: HARRY Kewell may have switched clubs for a $200,000-
a-week salary, but St George Illawarra centre Mark Gasnier is
prepared to give up $2.8 million to remain loyal to his beloved
Dragons for the next three years.

The Daily Telegraph has learned that Gasnier will reject a $3.6
million offer over four years from English giants Wigan.

Gasnier's manager George Mimis last night refused to elaborate on any
contract figures, but sources say Wigan's offer equated to $900,000 a
season extraordinary money not seen since the days of Super League.

Gasnier will agree to a three-year deal with the Dragons worth about
$780,000, or $260,000 a season.

And one of the reasons for his reluctance to move is the fact the
famous Gasnier name is synonymous with the St George club.

"Mark's not about money. He's about a career and loyalty," Mimis said.

History against Blues dynasty

By Paul Kent

SPORTING dynasties have been popular ever since Attila took his
starting 13 on an undefeated run through eastern Europe, mostly
playing away.

Most footballers, in fact, can trace their interest in dynasties all
the way back to the Ming Dynasty, when the great grey lumped 58kg in
the 1980 Caulfield Cup, paying 50/1 and considerably more off-course.

Funny things, dynasties.

St George won 11 premierships in 11 years but it wasn't until much
later that anybody thought to label it a dynasty.

Nowadays the NSW Blues win two games in a row and the D-word breaks
out like there's a fire sale down at the House of Nouns.

It happens every time the Blues have a little success.

"What you've got to remember," says the noted authority Wayne
Pearce, "is the NSW players used to be picked on Sunday, they'd go
into camp on Monday and play on Tuesday."

Pearce is taking us back to 1985, the year when talk of a Blue
Dynasty first took shape, when Steve Mortimer led the Blues to their
first series win and the planets realigned.

"It was the first year we went into camp for a week and,
coincidentally, we won the series," Pearce says. "And the next year
we went in and, once again, we won the series, but we won it 3-0."

And everybody was talking dynasty.

The talk was all about how the Blues had given Queensland a start in
the first five years of Origin by refusing to take it seriously, not
until they got their egos handed back on a plate, anyway.

The underdog Queenslanders had continually upset the Blues by going
into camp for an entire week and then coming out and putting on a
performance that would have given Attila's Huns the run they were
looking for as they eyed off the Roman Empire.

The Queensland beatings finally forced the Blues into taking this
whole Origin concept seriously, and so when they won 2-1 in 1985 and
then backed it up a with the clean sweep a year later, with Pearce as
captain, they called it a Blue Rinse and announced a dynasty was
born.

Ikin no scapegoat: Maroons prop

By Steve Mascord: Queensland prop Shane Webcke has launched an
impassioned defence of Ben Ikin ahead of Origin III, claiming the
Maroons' forwards should be blamed for any failings in the five-
eighth's game.

Ikin has made himself unavailable to the media for the entire lead-up
to next Wednesday's clash with NSW at Suncorp Stadium after he was
criticised for his contribution to the second Origin game.

The former international revealed during his weekly spot on
Brisbane's Channel Ten news on Wednesday night that he had been
relieved of tactical kicking duties by coach Wayne Bennett.

Speaking after a gruelling training run at Gwinganna Retreat in the
Gold Coast hinterland yesterday, a forthright Webcke said: "How has
Benny Ikin suddenly turned into the worst footballer in the world?

"He was one of our best players in the first one, in a game where
Queensland were supposedly not far off the mark.

"In the space of a week, he's gone from being a bloke who was a very
capable footballer to now: 'Let's get rid of him, he's too slow, he's
too old'.

Blues are favourite sons in their Forster home

Footy, what footy? NRL boss David Gallop rides more than the wave of
NSW hospitality at, where else, Blueys Beach yesterday. Photo: Craig
Golding

NSW have found at least 8000 reasons to go for a 3-0 sweep next
Wednesday, writes Brad Walter.

David Gallop was standing near the boardwalk at Blueys Beach watching
Andrew Johns and some of his NSW teammates surf when a passer-by
recognised him.

"I know you," he said, turning towards the NRL boss. "You're that
David bloke! David, David, David . . . something. Aren't you with the
NSW Rugby League?"

"Sort of," Gallop replied, having obviously decided not to bother
correcting him.

It was the right answer.

As far as everyone on the Mid-North Coast is concerned, if you're
with the Blues you must be OK. The NSW Origin players are the best
holiday-makers the area has ever had.

And if any of the locals ever doubted that they would be, they needed
only to ask the lady who - while getting Johns's autograph at the
beach - loudly told everyone within earshot about how tidy centre
Matt Gidley and the Blues captain had left her house when they rented
it a few years ago.

There were similar stories at an autograph-signing session attended
by about 8000 fans in the main street of nearby Forster yesterday
morning. Forster loves the Blues, and the Blues love Forster.

Aside from a brief weights session, the players had most of the day
to go surfing, water ski-ing, play golf or do whatever they wanted.

"It feels like January," second-rower Bryan Fletcher said after
riding the waves with Johns, Gallop, Robbie Kearns and Craig
Wing. "I've hardly thought about footy since we got here."

Coach Phil Gould doesn't seem to have been over-focusing on the task
that will be in hand when NSW meet Queensland next Wednesday in
Brisbane.

While the team flew up from Sydney on Wednesday, Gould drove. He must
have enjoyed the trip because the players said they had never seen
him so relaxed. When asked yesterday by a television reporter if he
was available for an interview, Gould said: "Yeah, sure. But what is
there to talk about?"

The only topic of conversation in Forster revolves around what the
Blues are doing.

Ryles doesn't expect true Blue test side

Three Maroons and a Johns.

That's the basis for the Australian Test rugby league side according
to front row contender Jason Ryles.

Despite NSW's utter domination of this year's State of Origin series,
Ryles expected the Test selectors to stick with proven performers for
the July 25 clash against New Zealand.

"I think they build the side around Shane Webcke, Andrew Johns,
Darren Lockyer and Gorden Tallis," Ryles admitted.

However, the St George Illawarra forward said he expected the
remaining 13 places in the Test squad to be dominated by NSW players,
with his Dragons team-mate Luke Bailey at the forefront.

Bailey has been a standout for the Blues and is expected to secure
his first Test jumper when the Australian side is named.

"I don't think he needs anything too big to get in that Test side
because he's well on the way to going there," Ryles said.

"A lot of guys say he's playing really well but he's been playing
this well for the last two years.

"I see it week in, week out. It's taken a few people a little longer
to realise how good he is."

Ryles would also be on the national selectors' shortlist after his
form in the opening two Origin games.

Danny Orr turns down Tigers

DANNY Orr has informed coach Graham Steadman that he will be
rejecting the new contract offered to him by Castleford and moving to
another club at the end of the season.

The Tigers had offered Danny, whose existing contract ends at the end
of the season, a three-year deal that was the highest ever offered by
the club and would have taken him through, in the third year, to a
benefit.

Tigers Chief Executive Richard Wright said; "We are sorry to lose
Danny but appreciate that he has to make what he believes to be the
best decision for his future. As we have said already, Danny was
offered a very good deal, the best in the clubs history, to stay with
the Tigers but he has decided not to accept that.

"But whilst Danny will be parting company with the Tigers I can
assure the fans that the clubs ambitions are undiminished. With the
uncertainty about Danny's future we had already been checking out
other options should he decide to leave. Now that he has taken that
decision we will be vigorously pursuing a high quality replacement.

"There is though plenty of football still to be played this year and
I am sure that Danny will be fully committed to the Tigers until the
end of the season. He has served the Tigers well in his time at the
club and when he does leave we will wish him all the best."

Hull, Bradford and Wigan are the three clubs that have been publicly
been linked with Orr's signature.

Bramley bid for NL3

BRAMLEY Buffaloes have confirmed that they will be applying to join
the Rugby League's National League Three for the 2004 season.

Currently looking at several ground options in the west Leeds area,
the club is determined that once more the amber and black shirts will
be worn in national competition.

"National League Three is an exciting, vibrant competition, giving
truly national exposure, and getting a team back on the field will
enable us to increase our community and commercial profile
immediately", said Bramley Chairman Lee Spracklen.

The club, owned by Bramley supporters, is still planning to return to
National League Two in the next few years.

"All of the community initiatives and innovative marketing contained
in our original Business Plan will still apply," Spracklen added.

"We will continue to work with local amateur clubs, and we believe we
can bring something extra to the League as a whole, as well as to
Bramley."

St Helens announce financial loss

St Helens have announced an operating loss of almost £800,000 for
the
year covering the 2002 season.

Sporting Club St Helens Limited, Saints' holding company, made a
consolidated operating loss of £799,344 during the 12 months ended
October 31, 2002.

During that year they were found guilty of breaching the salary cap,
but also reached the Challenge Cup final and won the Super League
Grand Final.

Club chairman Eamonn McManus, however, insists that the club's
finances have now been brought under control and such a loss will not
occur again.

He told the club's official website: "The year was a significant one
in the history of the club.

"In April 2002 a financial rescue and recapitalisation exercise was
successfully implemented, strengthening the club's balance sheet and
significantly reducing the debt.

"However, the club recorded further losses in 2002 and the board of
directors has conducted a major overhaul of senior and middle
management positions in order to ensure an improved business
performance in 2003 and beyond."

And McManus claims that, despite the Knowsley Road club's failure to
reach this season's Challenge Cup final, the immediate financial
outlook is rosy.
