One week after the Washington Area Girls Soccer League meted out its
harshest punishment ever, the Crofton Athletic Council took it one
step further by disbanding the Hot Shots team for pa- rental
misconduct.
The decision resulted from a 16-year-old referee's allegations that
Crofton parents threatened her, followed her to her father's van and
harassed her.
The Hot Shots, an under-14 travel team, were originally suspended by
the league through the fall season and ordered to write a letter of
apology to the referee. Hot Shots coach Doug Cahill, one of the
council's board members, resigned Monday.
The council, a nonprofit umbrella group of the leagues under which the
Hot Shots play, also rescinded the team's appeal of the league's
decision to the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association.
However, WAGS President Kathie Diapoulis said the team has the right
to an appeal, and the hearing is tentatively scheduled for
Saturday.
