I'm a 24-year old female athlete (I swim, play softball, soccer, and am currently training for a triathlon) that has just started playing soccer within the last year. I absolutely love the sport but cannot stray away from getting severe calf cramps at least 5-10 times during games -- whenever I sprint, move my feet fast enough to twitch my muscles, etc. I have purposely tried eating bananas, drinking plenty of water to hydrate my muscles, and stretch plenty before each game but nevertheless, I am plagued by these awful cramps which cause me to be more timid on the field as a result.
Is there a possibility that I have a potassium deficiency? What other sources can I dive into to solve this problem? Certain stretches?
Thank you.
