RE: [Good, Bad and Ugly (about Soccer)] Digest Number 37

The US National coaching staff recommends that kids of this age play all
positions and that individual skills be taught. Is defending an individual
skill? I would say so. They also recommend that positional play not be
taught, I would like to see kids this age play all over the place i.e.
midfielders, forwards, defenders and goalies. I would give them general
areas to cover and let them be creative and learn from the game. Team
strategy is a little too deep for these guys. Teaching them to pass and to
accomplish that well is doing a lot. Remember this isn't a world cup team
and can't handle strategy. I would say skill, skill, skill, skill, skill.
Keep them all moving (no lines) and no lectures; try to make it fun. I
would pick one topic say dribbling and concentrate on that for one practice,
I would have lots of activities to keep their interest.

good luck and have fun.

Search the web or check your local library for material about soccer
coaching. Work on ball control, team strategy and physical conditioning with
them.

There are like tons of books with all kinds of drills and practices and team
strategy.

Good luck.
