Hi Group...
I just signed up for this email group. I think this type of group and feedback could be really helpful. I've been coaching rec league for 10 years of various ages as my kids advanced thru the years. This past year I coached a boys JV high school team for the first time and really enjoyed the experience. This year I am giving it another shot but, I have questions....
My team last year was small, relatively slow, and outmatched by all the other teams in the division. I was signed up to coach 3 weeks into the season, so I had little time for much other than motivating and trying to figure out what they knew and didn't know.
For this year, I am going to start off on basics -- ball handling, team concepts, field vision, and some basic strategy. I want to work on our defense, too but, that's where we had problems last year.
One of our problems on defense last year was what I call "too much sag". My defense would sag back and back and back until the other teams' offense was 10-20 yards from the goalie!! Needless to say, it wasn't pretty!!
Does anyone here have any good drills, websites, philosophies, game strategies and/or examples of how to convey basic and advanced defensive skills?
Thanks.
