I have had this problem forever so maybe it is me and not my kids.
Either way, I need some advice.
As I said in my first post I coach a U-12 advanced team. My forwards
are pretty fast and have an excellent grasp of how to beat a trap.
Therefore, we play a ton of through balls. They receive the ball well
and go to goal. However, they take the ball into the 18, pass up a
good opportunity to try to get to the 6 and inevitably, a defender
recovers and throws off their attempt. Don't get me wrong, they score
their share this way, but I know we can do better if they would pull
the trigger sooner. I do drills in practice and they do fine. I play
small sided games on full size goals and give them a "line" to shoot
behind and they do fine. However, when the imaginary line is taken
away or they get in a game situation they dribble, dribble, dribble
and try to get right on top of the keeper.
What can I do to get them to take the first (and usually) better
chance to finish?
Thanks
Tony Graham
