Raiders lose one QB, sign another

Inexperienced Josh Booty replaces No. 3 Marques Tuiasasopo, who joins the Jets.

The Raiders might have two quarterbacks on their roster, but Andrew Walter still
has more experience.
The Raiders on Wednesday signed Josh Booty, a 31-year-old who has never thrown a
pass in an NFL regular-season game, to a reported two-year contract. Booty
figures to compete for a roster spot as a backup. Last season's third-string
quarterback, Marques Tuiasasopo, signed with the New York Jets on Thursday.
Booty's last stop in the NFL was in 2003, when he was with the Cleveland Browns
through the first two weeks of the season.
Booty's younger brother, John David Booty, played for new Raiders coach Lane
Kiffin at USC.
Josh Booty was a high school star in Louisiana in the early 1990s, winning
several national honors.
However, Booty chose professional baseball after being drafted fifth overall by
the Florida Marlins in 1994 as a shortstop. But after playing in only 13
major-league games, Booty returned to football after the 1998 baseball season
and played two seasons at LSU.
He was drafted in the sixth round by Seattle in 2001 before being traded to
Cleveland, where he was a backup and eventually cut.
The Raiders' quarterback situation has been a prominent offseason story line.
Oakland released Aaron Brooks after he was 0-8 as the 2006 starting quarterback.
Walter, who is entering his third season, threw three touchdown passes and 13
interceptions last season. He played in 12 games, starting eight.
The Raiders are expected to select a quarterback with the first overall pick in
next month's NFL draft. They also could wait to see if a veteran is available
via trade or released.
