The Raiders lost a close one at Candlestick Point losing to the 49ers
14-10. To be honest the Raiders committed too many penalties
tonight, shooting themselves in the foot. Tui fumbled the ball twice.
The first fumble gave the 49ers the first score of the game. My vote
for Player of the Game goes to Justin Fargas. He didn't come in until
the second half and still gained over 100 yards. Fargas also scored
our only touchdown and tied the game at 7-7. Rick Mirer showed great
poise and judgement and Janikowski broke the tie with his first field
goal of the preseason. The 49ers suffered through quite a few
injuries to break the tie with a 4th quarter touchdown leaving just
over 2 minutes on the clock. The Raiders drove deep into the red zone
on the final drive but on a 4th and 2 with seconds left a rookie
center flubbed the snap and the 49ers recovered to seal their victory.
It will be interesting to hear the coaches evaluations of some of the
players who are struggling to make the roster. Last week's standouts
didn't get much playing time tonight. The "Bubble" players should
have been in make it or break it mode tonight and some were. Some of
the rookies made the first round of cuts a much easier decision for
the coaching staff tonight.
The next preseaon game is at home on Friday,August 22 against the
Minnesota Vikings. If the game isn't televised you can still catch
the live action via the web on GameDay WebRadio. I put a link on the
home page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GoRaiders/ to make it easy to
tune in.
