We are currently seeking a few more teacher for equestrian classes at Gulf Wars, 2010. We still have slots for 4 more one hour classes (we can make a two hour class work as well), and are open to many different topics. These classes, or "Lunch & Learn" sessions, will be during the week between 11am and 1pm and will be a brown bag lunch class. We are open to very basic classes, hands on classes, or classes for the diehard equestrian crowd (or anything else in between).
If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible so that we can finalize the schedule. I'll need your name, contact info, a brief description of what you are interested in teaching, and if you have a day when you are absolutely not available to teach.
Hope to see you all at Gulf Wars - it's looks like it is going to be a great one!

Alicia,
I forgot to ask; do you require your riders to be SCA members to authorize? Cuz
if you do, I will, and if you don't, then I won't. I'll just make 'em all sign a
buncha waivers, LOL!
Chiere
Actually, Alicia, YOU could hold Gleann Abhann authorizations at GW, =-) This is
your kingdom's event, you know your people, and you are the KEO; if you wanted
to grab a corner, I don't think I could stop you, LOL! I just ask that if you
do, it's not on the GW schedule, and if someone asks what you are doing, tell
them Official Gleann Abhann KEO business for Gleann Abhanners. Also, these are
folks you will see on a regular basis so it's not like they are just going for a
day pass.
When we get the official schedule up, grab a spot that doesn't have anything
going on, if you like.
Later,
C

We only have 3 equestrian sites in kingdom - 2 in Arkansas and Kings Arrow Ranch, actually, Lake Bistineau is horse friendly, but no real place to hold the games (although we can make adjustments). So far we have had horses at 1 or 2 events a year (sans GW), so unless we can find more sites that allow horses or someone holds an official equestrian practice with the appropriate insurance that we can drive to in a weekend, we are extremely grateful to Lagerdam and Small Grey Bear for providing us with opportunities to have equestrian activities at events.
As it stands, we have a total of 8 people in kingdom that have shown up at events with horses, and 3 of those people were sharing 1 horse. Two from TN, three from LA and three from AR. This is the issue with practices as we live so far from each other.
So, if you have any suggestions please throw them out there so we can start expanding our presence in our Great Kingdom of Gleann Abhann.
This might sound like a stupid question, but....
if there is not going to be authorizations at Gulf Wars, where/when are there
going to be authorizations in Gleann Abhann?

Greetings Equestrians!
We have been given the go ahead to expand Mounted Watch for Gulf Wars XIX! We
can now go where ever the Watch needs us, (but as always, not into camps or down
Merchant's Row.)
Sir Stuart, the Watch Commander for Gulf Wars, has asked us for a lot of help.
He needs two rider teams every night of the week, for 4 hour shifts. The night
shift is 10 pm until 2 am and the morning shift is 2 am until 6 am. In addition,
he needs help with traffic directing and control, and on-call riders to escort
rigs to the barn. And, of course, he will need help patrolling the parking lots
and roads.
He's currently working on his schedule and would like a head count and an idea
of how many equestrians are interested. He needs to `budget' his riders. He has
a place for everyone who wants to participate in Mounted Watch, and needs to
know fairly quickly how to parcel those places out.
Horses will not need diapers; Sanitation is giving double points to pooper
scoopers! As in years past, horses will need to pass a special authorization.
This will consist of walking across a tarp, standing still when porta potty
doors burst open, drunken crowds petting the pretty pony, banners flapping in
their faces, a bag of cans rattled up their sides, radios and phones ringing and
speaking over them, and balls being tossed near them.
I know this seems a long way out; we are just looking for an informal head count
of who would be interested in participating in Mounted Watch. A show of hands
would do nicely, LOL!
Please feel free to cross post, and send responses either here or to me at
cheri@ blackroot.org
Thank you!

THERE WILL BE NO AUTHORIZATIONS FOR GENERAL RIDING OR MOUNTED GAMES AT WAR.
To ride at War; drills, trail rides, Mounted Watch and such; you must already be
authorized for General Riding by your home kingdom. To ride the games;
hastiludes, quests, emprises and such; you must be authorized for Mounted Games
by your home kingdom. Beyond this, we will be using Gleann Abhann's equestrian
rules, which are also the Society equestrian rules. This means authorization
levels accepted will be General Riding and Mounted Games. Special Authorizations
accepted will be Jousting, Mounted Combat, Mounted Archery and Driving.
However, there will be upgrades to the Special Authorizations by appointment and
with your kingdom's KEO's permission. To upgrade to a Special Authorization you
must already be authorized for Mounted Gaming. I know this sounds strict, but
with the new rules, and the new responsibilities placed on the individual and
the marshals, your kingdom needs to vouch for you.
So, make your practices, meet your marshals, support your KEO, have fun, and go
out and RIDE!
