Greetings Bella from Donwenna,
It was good to meet you and yours at GW.
How very kind of you to offer to bring equipmt and horses. You can
have unofficial practices without an Equestrian Marshal. You
can 'advertise' those as non-SCA EQ parties thru
non-official-SCA venues. Be sure to put in Subject line on email :
OT,non-SCA EQ
That should do it for you.
If the Practice is advertised in the Kingdom Newsletters or thru
other official venues, then you need an EM.
Thanks for joining the fun!

Our little place is in Rockdale, TX, bout an hour from Austin, an hour
from Waco, an hour from Bryan/College STation (where they keep the
Aggies) - which is to say, an hour from anything interesting! :D
We've been in the SCA going on 4 years now. Authorized advanced,
mounted crest combat and archery - basically everything except
jousting and we're working on that. In addition to the SCA, we
perform the Ballet du Cheval, Light Joust, Skills at Arms games and
mounted archery for smaller renfaires, perform in parades, etc. We're
also in the process of trying to introduce equestrian games to a
boffer LARP group that we play with.
We'd love to play with ya'll in Gleann Abhann! Got family in Conway

Greetings unto the Gleann Abhann Cavalry from Donwenna La Mareschale,
I am writing to introduce myself and some current projects I am
working on.
By way of introduction, I was one of the first Society Equestrian
Officers ; I served 1994-1996. Also, the Company of St Anne will be
hosting the Emprise of the Ring of the Athanor this next year at Gulf
Wars. More detailed info on the Lance can be found at :
www.lanceofstanne.com/
As for current projects, I go to Gulf Wars periodically and in fact
last year introduced the Known World Hunt Guild which is based in An
Tir
www.huntguild.org
I look forward to seeing members of your kingdom make their presence
known this year at Gulf Wars!

It's good to hear from you. I sold Warrior (the paint) and now have a 14 hh bay
walker/1/4 cross - easy to get on and off of. :) He neck reins, kinda moves off
leg and seat pressure - trying to refine that now, good stop, easy to get
going.....I really like him.
I'm going to try to get to GW this year, but won't be able to take a horse - I
just won't know in time if I can take off to get all the "bringing a horse to
GW stuff" done.
Anyway, hopefully we can try to do something to get things going in our fair
kingdom. Of course that means finding horse friendly sites <g>. I'm thinking
about holding some unofficial riding get-togethers if there is anyone close that
wants to play.
Alicia
PS to anyone interested in riding - I live ~20 miles east of Natchitoches, LA in
St. Maurice

WOOO HOOO!! Glad to have you back!! We are in Little Rock now, and do not have
our horses with us, but hopefully we will be able to by next summer/fall
(crosses fingers). I MISS my babies! Right now I have to be satisfied with my
model horses. At least we will get to see them at Christmas. Gulf Wars is out
for us this year with the horses, Darlin is really too old, Dyna is a bit of
scatterbrain (and Dad is breeding her this year), and Dad sold Rowdy (he was my
backup plan even tho he is a s#*t head). We have 2 18 month old fillies that
will hopefully be ready to go for next year, they are very patriotic, one is
solid black the other is firey red.

$700 to good home or will trade for cart. If you REALLY want him, make me an offer...
Baccus is a ASB and Arab mix. The lady we got him from said that he was a Saddlebred, but after having him a while I believe him to be part Arabian. He is very refined and pretty. Lovely head. He is trained 1st level Dressage as well as TRICKS! He will bow, lie down, sit up, count, Spanish Walk, kick, and rear. He comes with the book used to train him. He is a bit rusty on the rearing, but will do all of the others readily. I have not had time to work with him, and do not know what other ones he knows. He has had a rough time of things before coming to me. His original owner/trainer died and he has been passed around and not fooled with for a few years. I believe he is a one-person type personailty and is looking for that one person. He needs to bond with someone again, he is a lost boy. He is very sweet, but nervous about new things. He needs a
confident and gentle owner who will take time to work with him and bond with him again. I have no time to devote to him, I have moved three hours from him and am unable to have him.I beleive he has the potential to be a wonderful horse for someone who is willing to take time with him. He has the training, he just needs the right rider. I think he might make an endurance horse as well, he is very athletic. Please email for more photos. He loads, bathes and longes beautifully. Well behaved for the farrier. Good sound feet and legs. UTD on vaccs. May trade for cart. GOOD HOME ONLY! Not a beginners/childs horse.

I don't know how I did that, but the demo is the third weekend of
OCTOBER up against Masque of the Red Death and the BOD meeting.
Horse archery would be very impressive. Now, I have been told that
the Tunica Arena is set up for horses but I have never seen it
myself. I just have to go with the pictures on the arena website and
such quotes as "Designed to accomodate a wide variety of equine
events such as: cutting horse, barrel racing, quarter horse, horse
auctions as well as events like rodeos, motor sports, family shows,
exhibits, trade shows, cattle shows and cattle sales." and "606
modular livestock stalls." The Boy Scouts are getting the whole
place so I will check if we have to rent stalls and what area they
mean for us to use.
Here is the website for Scout Base.

And here is the one for the site

If anybody can make it in October we'll be glad to have you.
Krisztof
Paul, that sounds like fun, but at the moment I am doing archery off Sassy. I am sure that there are many brave souls out there that would love to take you up on that offer. Just as an FYI that weekend, the third in November, is Gleann Abhann Coronation.

Howdy!
Grey Niche has been asked to do a demo for about 15,000 Boy Scouts in
Tunica, MS on the third weekend of November. The Scouts contact has
told me that the site is set up for horses, does any one feel like
coming to Tunica?

Try Tim Collins in Ringgold Louisiana. I can't guarantee he has any, or the price, but that's where we get ours. I don't have his number but you can probably call information and get it.

For any penny pinching horse owners like me, encephalitis (this is
probably not spelled right) vaccines can be purchased over the counter
and administered by yourselves for a fraction of the cost of having
your vet do it. I buy mine from Jeffers (1-800-Jeffers or
jeffersequine.com )
West Nile vaccine is not available over the counter yet, that one you
will have to have your vet do.

I am selling my ASB/Arab mix (we think he's part Arab at least)
gelding. His name is Baccus. He is 9 years old, solid chestnut. 16
ish hands. Trained 1st level Dressage and TRICKS! He will bow, sit,
lay down, count, Spanish Walk, Piaffe, kick and rear (from the
ground, can't get him to rear with me on him). You can lay him down
and get on him, no climbing up from the ground! He spins like a
reining horse, neck reins and leg reins. Very light on his feet. He
is very sensitive and responsive, longes beautifully, loads. He
needs someone to take time and bond with him, he is a bit untrusting
of people right now, he has not been fooled with for a LONG time. I
had him only a short time before I moved and have not had the time
to work with him, he is 3 hours away. He has LOADS of potential and
just needs to be worked with, he is NOT mean or stupid, just
sensitive and a bit nervous, he needs a friend. The book that he was
trained with will be included. I plan to take some photos of him
this weekend.
If you have any questions call me at 501-819-0108 or 318-663-0917

Hi all! Sorry to be chiming in so late, but I thought I had set this
thing to send me daily digests. I haven't been getting any emails
and thought that y'all were just being quiet! Glad I checked the
website.
Anyway, My name is Melisant of Exmoor (yes, like the pony). I live
in the Shreveport/Bossier area. I didn't learn to ride until I was
15 although I wanted to since I was about 2. I own a 15 year old
Azteca mare. I am not authorized in Equestrian yet. I am lucky
enough to be able to stable my mare at my subdivision's community
stable (4 minutes away). I am also the barn manager there, so if
sometime in the future we wanted to hold a practice there, I could
probably swing it. There is an arena and round pen, but it is not
covered.
I am also an authorized heavy weapons fighter and combat archer.
I did take my mare to a re-enactment of the battle of hastings in
Missouri. It was put on by the Vikings of North America (a steel
group). She was fine with one or two fighters, but was intimidated
by the whole shield wall!
Hopefully we will get the opportunity to authorize one of these days.
Greetings All,
I am Ld. Karron of Pinewood. I was formerly very heavily involved in
the equestrian college of Meridies but had to quit for a while to
regain myself after my divorce. I am an advanced authorized rider with
Meridian certification in mounted combat, jousting, and mounted
archery. Although currently horseless (woe is me), I am currently
training several mounts for a good friend under the pretext that I may
use one of them for the mounted games. I joined your list primarily as
a lurker to keep track of the events and progress in GA, but will be
happy to assist you in any way I can. Take advantage of my 10+ yrs of
SCA equestrian...lol
Ld. Karron of Pinewood, ALM
I am Christiana Breakspear. As my lord, Paul, said we are originally
from Northern, LA. Our horses are still there. I grew up riding, I
have photos of me on the horse from the time I could sit up. I have
been in the SCA about 5 years. I just got authorized equestrian at
Gulf this year. We attended Steppes Warlord and had a BLAST. My 26
year old mare had a REALLY good time taking Heather for a bit of a joy
ride.
I am also an equine artist and a model horse customizer. You can see
my work on my online album
(http://community.webshots.com/user/scaequestrian).
We look foward to being able to represent Gleann Ahbann in equestrian
events. I really hope we can find somewhere soon to keep our horses in
the area, I miss having them around.
I am Heather and I live in Natchitoches. I have been riding horses for 9 years, but the last 4 yrs. I have not been able to ride often. The closest horses to me that are in good condition to exert theirselves are also 4 hrs. away. I authorized at Advanced Equestrian at Steppes in Ansteorra during May.

I guess that covers it. I'll be glad to answer any questions.

On the morning they left we said goodbye filled with sadness for the absence to come.
Inside the palanquins on the camels' backs I saw their faces beautiful as moons behind veils of golden cloth.
Beneath the veils tears crept like scorpions over the fragrant roses of their cheeks.
These scorpions do not harm the cheek they mark. They save their sting for the heart of the sorrowful lover.
