I have posted a photo in the photo section of a 9th or 10th century
Norwegian (Viking) snaffle bit and a pair of stirrups. I have also
seen photos of mild curb bits, but will have to dig through my books
to find it again. The strange ring thing was believed to be a noise-
maker that hung on a saddle or harness to strike fear in the hearts
of the enemy.

If any one has any other photos of period bits, feel free to post
them in the album, maybe we can get a good collection going!

I don't know who cataloged this bit, at the museum....but its your basic spade bit...and the only delicate thing about it, is the decorations on it....this is...

Yeah I've always thought the bits from period look way harsh. I'm sure there are some out there no near so hard on the mouth but i've not seen any examples ......
