Warranted Marshals: Well there are not alot of them in Gleann Abhann. The Eq activities in Gleann Abhann have been kinda slow until the past 2 years. So right now I think that the warranted marshals are me, Alicia (the Kingdom EQ Marshal) & Lorraine (?) and perhaps another gentile. (Sorry! I can't recall the other.)
To be a marshal: There is of course a process. I've attached the form.
Hosting an official practice, contest or EQ event: You have to have insurance from the SCA and you have to have a warranted marshal in attendance. Yes, I know that many of us have hosted playdays, rodeo's ropings, barrel runs, shows............etc, BUT this is the SCA Inc. with a board of directors, attorneys and rules, so that is that. We have to follow their policy.
On an aside note about mundane vs SCA on Eq things: If you participated in sanction breed shows, rodeo's, open shows, hunt jump..............like I did. You are gonna have to really bring down your expectations of SCA Eq activities. There are no well dragged arenas, parking spaces for your rig with electricity, public address systems, indoor arenas, night time lighting or show staff. There will be probably only one or two contests/classes per day, a small number of riders who do double duty as show staff, a mostly flat area for riding of middling size and only a few spectators. That being said, it is a fun time, but as Alicia keeps telling me, it is 100%different than mundane horse events/shows.
<.....sigh, Oh for a well dragged arena.......>
Authorizing: It can only be done at a sanctioned SCA EQ thing where there is a marshal and the event has the SCA Eq insurance.
Chariot/driving rules: Alicia will have to make them since she is the Kingdom Eq marshal. She will probably look at other kingdom's precedence in driving and adapt them to suit Gleann Abhann.
Chariot driving: Well it certainly looks like fun. Dr. Odam who actually made a chariot and drove it with one of his Morgans said "It is much harder than you would ever think it would be." So have fun and maybe invest in a crash helm. :-)
I'm glad you are on board and hope your SCA Eq experience is fun!
