Re: [GleannAbhannEquestrian] Re: Wagon driving??

Hi :)

If you're interested in reconstructing a chariot, there are several places to
look. Do a google search for the Wetwang or Garton Slack chariot reconstructions
(both UK). Also you could look up articles and a couple books by Mary Littauer.
Although she died in 2005, she's still the expert on chariots from their
earliest appearance on. There are also Stuart Piggott's works (again, also
deceased). Littauer's a bit more "practical" than Piggott - he was an
archaeologist by training, she was a rider. :) Both do good work, though.

Hope that helps!

Julian

What would it take to get rules put in place?

The prob for us isn't w/ coming up w/ horses that drive. Its the
equipment or should I say period equipment. If we would be able to
use mundane until period equipment could be found/made we'd love to
do driving.

A friend of mine (who wants to get into the SCA) and I have talked
about building a chariot - my dad says it wouldn't be hard (has
doubts). Its basicly a D-shape... the correct wooden wheels would be
tough though. I am also not so sure about the yoke form of traction.

rules for this activity yet.
