House Subrosa will sponsor this class. The class judge will be THL Celestine Albrit. This class will be an open division class open to all horses and riders. Prizes will be awarded.
Open Equitation Class:
Judging Premise, The Class Ideal - To ride a horse it to guide
him/her but also to control his every movement. The best-trained horse should be willfully guided or controlled with no apparent resistance and dictated by the rider completely. Credit will be given for smoothness, finesse, attitude and performance of the various maneuvers. The rider should have a workmanlike appearance, seat, hand light and supple conveying the impression of complete control should any emergency arise. All movements of the horse should be governed by the use of imperceptible aids.
1. Riders may use either one hand on the reins or two.
A. One Hand style - Upper arms to be in a straight line with the body, the one holding reins bent at the elbow. Reins held in one hand cannot be changed during performance. One finger is permitted between reins if split reins are used and rein ends must be hung on the same side of the horse in the rein hand. Reins are to be carried immediately above the center point of the pommel/fork and near to the saddle.
B Two Hand style - Hands should be over and in front of the horse’s withers.
2. Gaits - Horses will be asked to perform at the walk, trot and canter. Gaited horses will have the option to use their favorite gait for the trot.
A. Walk - A natural flat-footed, four-beat gait
B. Trot - a smooth fast or slow two-beat diagonal gait.
C. Favorite Gait - pace, stepping pace, fox trot, running walk, rack, Paso, tolt or any other ambling gait.
D. Canter - an easy rhythmical three-beat gait.
3. Basic Position - The eyes would be up and the shoulders back. Toes should be out at an angle best suited to the rider's conformation. The ankles should be flexed in, heels down, thighs and calves to be in contact wit the horses' body. The body should appear comfortable, relaxed and flexible.
4. Position in Motion - At the walk, seated trot and favorite gait the body should be vertical. Riders opting to post to the trot should be inclined forward. At the canter the body should be slightly inclined.
Class routine:
1. Each horse will work individually the posted pattern.
2. Horses are worked along the rail both ways of the arena at the walk, trot/favorite gait and canter. Horses cantering should be on the correct lead at all times. Riders posting should be on the correct diagonal at all times.
3. Horses should be in perfect balance at all times, working off its haunches, neck and head should be at a normal height with mouth closed.

Tie-Downs
Draw reins
Dropped nose bands
Mechanical hackamore
Wire curbs regardless of how padded
Chin strap narrower than 1/2 inch
Faults
A. Horse - opening mouth excessively, breaking gaits, refusing to change leads, anticipating signals, stumbling, falling, wringing tail, bouncing sideways to stop, backing sideways, hitting/bumping ground rail
B. Rider - losing stirrup, excessive talking to horse, petting, excessive spurring, quirting, jerking on reins, excessive pull on rein, exaggerated shifting of the rider's weight, loss of control of horse, extreme speed, cutting off horse in rail work, profanity,
Disqualifications:
Off pattern, incorrectly worked pattern, changing rein hands, touching saddle with free hand, running into another horse in rail work, running into judge, performance of
gaits outside of defined parameters (example - four beat canter) failure to execute gaits when required
