Hello everyone,
It's great that we have 20 members, but I must say I only recognize a
few e-mail addresses in the roster. How about an introduction? It
can be as simple or as elaborate an introduction as you feel
comfortable. Ideas about things you might include are your occupation,
years running/cycling, short and long-term goals for your sport,
personal records, favorite shoe, favorite race, funny running story, etc.
I'll get things going by introducting myself. I've been running off
and on since I was a freshman in college (early 80's), never
particularly serious though I have always enjoyed the occasional road
race.
I guess it's a mid-life crisis thing but I decided late last summer to
try to get more serious about running and training. I'm nowhere near
where I used to be as a young guy but I'm hoping with hard, smart
training I can at least approach the times which came so easily back
then. So far I've knocked 2 minutes off my 5K time from August of
last year, but my goal is to get it under 20 minutes.
I've been working for the last 5 months specifically toward my first
marathon, which takes place on May 20th. I'll post a race report here!
For the newer members, please be sure to check out the calendar of
events on the group homepage. I'm updating information as it becomes
available to me. If anyone sees erroneous info please let me know ASAP.
Don't forget to post your photo! Only a few members thus far have
contributed (thanks Todd and Masked Avenger). Feel free to make your
own folder and fill it with photos of yourself! We have plenty of
webspace available. If you would like you may e-mail me the photo and
how you would like it labeled and I would be happy to post it for you.
Race results are under "Files" on the group homepage. I hope to post
all local race results there. Please e-mail me results (or point me
toward the webpage) and I'll post results for any away races in which
you may have participated.
Again, an elaborate introduction isn't necessary (but it is welcome!).
Please at least chime in with your name and where you live.
Onward and upward,
Tom Phillips (Valdosta)
