Peach Competition - some news and notes   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1750 of 1916 |
(Some people said that they didn't get this yesterday, so I'm sending
out again. Sorry, if you got it more than once)

We only have a few days left before the Peach Open and Peach Classic
competitions begin. I have a few things to make all of our members
aware of.

1) Club Ice cancelled this week at Duluth:
Since the Peach Open begins on Friday, we will not be holding Club Ice
at Duluth this Friday, Aug 31. However, it will be back at the same
time next week.

2) Setup:
The rink has let us know when we can start setting up. We have access
to all the public areas starting at 9:00am on Friday, Aug 31 (which is
when we will begin setting up the vendor booths and hospitality), and we
have access to the Thrashers' rink at 11:30am (which is when we will
setup the judges's stands). All of these operations will take several
people to get done before the time the competition starts. So, if you
can, please plan on helping.

3) Tear down/Putaway:
The Peach Classic will be over at about 12:30pm on Sunday, Sep 2. At
that point, we can start taking apart the judges' stands and storing all
the pieces on top of the locker room. This will take several people to
carry and lift the parts. The ones of us that will be working the
events all weekend, will be worn out, so any help would be appreciated.

The Basic Skills events will be finishing about 3:30 on Sunday, and that
is when we can break down the items in the public areas - vendor booths,
award stands, etc. These are either items the club has rented or that
we want to make sure are stored carefully. Again, your help would be
appreciated.

If you can help out with setup or breakdown, please drop me an email.

4) Thank yous:
Since you will be seeing these people this weekend, I thought you may
want to know about the people that have worked so hard to plan and
execute this event. When you see them this weekend, please give them a
"Thank you". The names are in no particular order.

Kristel Fuchs has been putting together the Music and Announcing teams,
making sure the medals were in order, and has been there at the
meetings making sure we didn't miss anything.

Lone Barama and Sue Miller have been working hard to make sure that the
club shows fine Southern hospitality to the officials and coaches. A
well fed (and well coffeed) judge is a happy judge.

Sherry Eddings and Ellen Poulsen have been working to get all the items
together for the goody bags. They pulled together the members of the
Junior Club session to help out.

Jennifer Silas has been doing several things. She is the Event
Treasurer depositing the hundreds of checks, paying for all the little
things that it takes to put this on. She has also worked with the hotel,
to obtain a good rate for the skaters, and to house the officials. She
has also worked on getting a venue for the Classic Competitors Party.

Marianne Campbell has jumped in whereever necessary with overseeing
Transportation (getting the officials to and from the airport, hotel and
banquet), Runners, Ice Monitors, Practice Ice, Officials' Banquet,
Dressing Rooms, etc.

Katie and Dustin Smith received all the Practice Ice requests and check,
and worked with Marianne on putting together the schedule.

Becky and Lionel Postic pulled together a great looking program all in a
very short time. It has to be put together at the last minute, because
that is when we get all the information. They also sold ads, which will
help make sure we don't lose money on the event.

Lisa Swantek jumped in with both feet taking the Vendor and Volunteer
committees. This has been a huge task contacting all the vendors,
getting their reservations and requirements, working on the logos, and
then trying to get our very busy members to sign up for times to work at
the event. I'm afraid to count how many emails we've traded over the
last few months.

Connie Costner for working with the Postics on getting ads and also
setting up the club's new sponsorship program. More about this will be
coming out soon!

Chrissy Spratlin has been working with the media, so that hopefully they
will cover the event.

Ginger Whatley has worked on getting the officials to come to the event.
This entails inviting them, coordinating their hotel stays with
Jennifer, working with Lone and Sue on the menus, working with the
referee to make sure we have the correct levels on each of the days,
working with Marianne to make sure that they get where they need to be.

And, also I'd like to thank everyone else who has signed up to help
during the event:

Carolyn Crocker is heading and manning the Registration area, Kristel
will be announcing most of the events, Marianne will be at most of the
Practice Ice to monitor and take walk ons, Lone and Sue will be there
the whole time making sure everyone is taken care of,
and there are all the people that have signed up for shifts:
Karyn Thomas, Julie Pierce, Carol Perrenoud, Dawn Kisella, Alaina Lee,
Susan Green, Sue Hannigan, Patricia Sims, Janet Kloor, Jamie Angelucci,
Indra Washington, Tracie Sheridan, Dave Lenior, Karissa Fitzgerald,
Deidre Mitchell, Diane Lepori, Linda DePeter, Barbara Grimes, Joanne
Brower, Wesley Maxham, Christine Wootten, Cindy Torgerson, Grace
Hammond, Emily Mantooth, Andrea Hubert, Damon Costner, Barbara Reese,
Tina Gravenstein, Christian Shambach, Jon Perrenoud, Maryann Surratt,
Sandra Creighton, Briana Maxham, and Louisa Barama.

Also, we have the following skaters as runners: Julie Swantek, Jessica
Lieuw, Samantha Reese, Mia Mantooth, Naomi Bradley, Annaliese Perrenoud,
MacKenzie Kisella, Rebecca Lee, Jessica Fuchs, Colleen DePeter, Maura
Green, Haily Hannigan, Katie Maxham, Raquel Postic, Rebekah Postic,
Courtney Wootten, Tina Washington, Jordan Silas, Cara Leigh Creighton,
Kathryn Torgerson, Katherine Squirewell, Lindsey Squirewell, Amelia
Bradley.

(For those of you volunteering as runners, remember to bring your
skates. On Friday and Saturday, we'll need to send the music across the
ice during warmups. Also, they skaters may need help sweeping up the
goodies thrown on the ice.)

Also, I'd personally like to thank all the officials that are
volunteering their time to our event. In case you didn't know, judges,
accountants, technical specialists, etc., don't get paid. All we do is
reimburse them for their expenses. All their time is volunteered
because of their love of the sport.

I think that's it for now.

See you at the event, and good luck!!!

Rob
