today was the track debut of Harold Martin's new Martin M4 vehicle.  He has the race car, and now he plans to market it as a street car.  It looks like  something out of a Science Fiction movie!. I had to leave before he made a pass, but here is a look.

I just got this from another group I belong to and thought I would pass it
along.This is from Jr. Thompson's
Daughter Rhonda.
I just wanted to let you all know that my dad is in the hospital, he
suffered a mild heart attack. He went in Sunday morning about 2:30 AM but
it was because he couldn't sleep and he was disoriented. So mom called 911
and the EMT's found that his blood sugar was very low & he had an irregular
heartbeat. We still don't know a lot of details as he is getting more
tests.

He is doing very well and feeling better so please keep him in your
prayers - I want to see him make it to his 75th and beyond. It will be so
good when he comes home and finds some nice cards that some of you have sent
to him.

Subject: [GeorgiaDragRacing] Hemi Hurricane Crash 1967

I posted some of these photos a couple of years ago but the subject came up again recently so I thought I would post it again. These photos from the collection of a racing friend, Gary McGill were taken at the "Drag City", Ringgold, Georgia track in 1967. Joe Hood's "Super Cuda" and Bunky Bobo's "Hemi Hurricane" were involved in a finish line crash and the result is shown in these photos. Joe Hood was killed about four months later at Warner Robbins, Georgia. The Hemi Hurricane II was rebuilt and competed at the Nationals at Indy that year.

I recently befriended Doug Potter, who owned and helped build Joe Hood's car. The last photo shows him, in the maroon shirt, along with another old timer, Red Harris at our local drag strip last Fall. If anyone has info or photos of Joe Hood, please send them to me. Mr. Potter is very interested in photos since he only has one that he took himself. He is especially interested in photos from a race that Joe Hood won at the Hollywood, Florida track in 1966 or 67. Doug Potter said that they had the only injected car at that race. He said the local paper had a full page photo of all the funny cars together. Maybe someone in the Florida area could dig up some info on this.

Thanks, Wayne.

Wayne.

Warren Johnson, Kurt Johnson, and Greg Anderson brought their NHRA Pro Stocks out to South Georgia Motorsports Park on Tuesday, January 27.  Coming off an incredible 6.52 at 212 at West Palm Beach (although in unworldly atmospheric conditions), Anderson had to be considered to be the favorite for low elapsed time.  At the beginning of the session, the track record stood at 6.59 (Allen Johnson) and 211.00 (Warren Johnson).  Both records would be bettered multiple times during the afternoon.  WJ appeared in white primer, letting nothing out of the bag on his possible sponsorship for the season.
Both KJ and Anderson ran early 6.58s to better the track record with KJ's 6.581 being the best.  Early in the afternoon, Anderson stepped up and bettered the mph record with a nice 211.03 with a 6.587 et.  Warren Johnson's first two passes were 6.61s at 210.  At 3:55 Anderson ran a near record 6.582 at 210.73.  At 4:05, KJ ran a 6.588 at 210.  Next WJ slowed to a 6.65 at 209.  We seemed to be mired in the 6.58 zone, until Greg Anderson blasted out a 6.578 at 211.23 to snatch both ends of the track record at 5:16 PM.  KJ came back and ran 6.588 at 210 about 5:40.  Just after dark, Anderson made his last pass of the evening and lowered the elapsed time record to a great 6.568 at 210.93.  Unfortunately I had to leave at this point and I suspect that WJ and KJ both took another shot.

I removed the spammer from the group. My spam filter must work pretty
well because I didn't even get the original email and the two replies
in my mailbox (I had to go to the group website to see them). I check
in here every couple of days at least so when I see them I remove the
spammers. Again, my spam filter must stop some of the garbage from
coming through to me - imagine that .....a filter that works! LOL

Thanks for letting me know about this, Reed.

I agree with you on this Ken, as I receive 3-5 of these a day...just from THIS site! This particular one is new, to me anyway, as most of the ones I get are from "Vesta", wanting me to check out her new boobs! Seems to me that, there ought to be a way to block these scammers by their e-mail addy...this one being sent by staceybizpro1@.... If I wanted a "biz pro" for any reason, I have the "Big Yellow Book" for that!
Ok, that's MY 2 cents on the matter, so, Thanks for letting me vent.

Keep the shiny side up!

I took this video at my home track, Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip, in 1991. It's in two parts. Clay Hair, the first car shown in the video, won the race. He sure could handle a clutch.

I didn't get the whole round filmed because they called my class to staging. I won super rod class at this race. There's a shot of my yellow Vega at the end of the second clip.

Important News from SEMA

Dear Fellow Enthusiast,

As a SEMA Member Company, we have received an Urgent Legislative
Action Alert from the association. You may be interested in this
legislative alert and the possible impact it will have on your hobby.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is a non-profit
trade association composed of more than 6,800 member companies
involved in all aspects of the automotive industry, from manufacturers
to car clubs and race teams.

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) protects your hobby from unfair or
unnecessary legislation on national and local levels. Through
distribution of information and the collective voice of automotive
enthusiasts and businesses, the SEMA Action Network has successfully
impacted legislation concerning scrappage laws, equipment standards,
registration classifications, emissions regulations, and more.

The following information is directly from SEMA. If you would like to
contact the lawmaker, follow the instructions in the alert.

Thank you for your time,
Your Friends at Summit Racing Equipment

width=595 align=top border=0 Cash for Clunkers? Program?>

Washington lawmakers are drafting a large economic stimulus package to
help create jobs and rebuild infrastructure. They want to include a
nationwide scrappage program which would give U.S. tax dollars to
consumers who turn-in older cars to have them crushed, as a misguided
attempt to spur new car sales. The lawmakers need to scrap this idea.

The stimulus package is being drafted right now. House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi (D-CA) wants to introduce the bill on January 6 and have it
approved by Congress by January 20, so that President Obama can sign
it into law after he is inaugurated.

Talking Points
Feel free to use any of the statements below as a starting point for
your message to Speaker Pelosi.

     * I am [calling/writing] to urge lawmakers not to include a "Cash
for Clunkers" provision in the economic stimulus bill. Owners who turn
in vehicles for crushing would receive a "minimal" payment to purchase
a new car. This is a misguided attempt to spur car sales and claim
that the country's air quality or fleet fuel mileage is being improved.

     * I work for [company name] located in [city and state]. My
company is part of the specialty automotive industry, an industry
which enables consumers to enhance their vehicle's appearance,
performance, comfort, convenience and safety. "Cash for Clunkers"
programs deny our small businesses the availability of older cars
necessary to develop and market their products and services. The
programs will hurt my company and our customers.

     * "Cash for Clunkers" programs threaten enthusiasts nationwide
with the loss of valuable parts and parts-cars for repair,
restoration, and customization projects. The programs also risk
destroying classic, historic and special-interest vehicles, our
American heritage.

     * Cars turned in for scrappage often barely run, or are
rarely-driven second or third vehicles that have a minimal impact on
overall fuel economy or emissions.

     * "Cash for Clunkers" programs will reduce the availability of
affordable transportation and repair parts used by low-income drivers.
It will also compete with the Salvation Army, the Purple Heart and
other charities that rely on vehicle donations to raise money.

     * "Cash for Clunkers" ignores better policy options. If Congress
wants to act, support for repair and upgrade is a better choice and a
win-win for consumers, dealers, manufacturers and repair shops.
Significant emissions and fuel economy improvements can be achieved in
older vehicles through relatively simple and inexpensive means:
repaired/replaced exhaust systems, tune-ups, etc.

     * We hope we can count on you to reject "Cash for Clunkers." Thank
you for your consideration on this very important matter.

If you choose to send a message to Speaker Pelosi, please send a copy
of your message to SEMA also:

Someone did an awesome job putting this together and with sound to boot. At the very end of the video you'll hear the song ' Thunder Road ' sung by the star of the movie for which it was the theme! Not uncommon except this is the one and only song ever recorded, for publication, sung byRobert Mitchum!
