Hi Group, Thought, I would tell you about last saturday afternoon when I first heard of Scott's wreck...... a friend of mine Ralph....that drives the rig of Mike Ashley and sometimes Melanie Troxel and works for r2b2 motorsports(Procare) here in Duluth,Ga was at our favorite Saturday afternoon sportsbar hangout (he had the weekend off because of a death in his family)..were watching Scott's last attempt to qualify when they were working to get him in the show and we started talking about the old days as he was a fan and friend of Hubert and my dad....so I went to my car and brought back an envelope that I had got the day before after buying some old magazines on ebay.....The NHRA show went off at 5 and was to come back on at 7 ...when NHRA is on there.... I have every other TV tuned to Drag Racing and most of the folks there love it as The owner lets me commandeer the TV'S whenever I see fit.....out of the 5 or so magazines that we were all looking through...i had one open from 1965 and it was about Connie...... .........Rallph then ran up and got me and told me what he had heard......I said oh no !....man, I said not again........sitting right next to it all bright and yellow with the DHL logo was the envelope that it had come in....I was busy running around the bar because we book bands there and had 3 coming in that night .anyway, when ESPN2 came back on at 7 EST I watched Mike Dunn tell the whole story and was trying my best to be manly and not choke up but had that knot in the throat thing going on and was trying to not to let several of my bartender gal pals see me shed a tear.....and I did pretty good until they showed ole Gary Scelzi.....and I had to walk outside and do my choking up and ask why this had to happen over someone doing what they love ........to make a long story short....I canceled going to a 'Mothers Finest' show I'd helped book and was supposed to emcee in Griffin Ga. .....cause I was in no mood to try to be a happy emcee.....I had each of the 3 bands that night (most of them love Drag Racing and are friends) and they all played a tribute song to Scott....I also went around that night and had all the patrons and band members sign the Yellow DHL envelope and it was displayed all night up on stage. ........After I get a few more to sign it I'll scan it and send you a copy ....After that I will send the envelope to 'The Bounty Hunter' Conrad Kalitta as a nice gesture and tell him this story that you have just read. Again Scott Rest in Peace Brother..... ......... .. Phil Bonner,Jr Atlanta,Georgia USA www.myspace.
