A "Strategy Day" for Bradford
Yesterday, an ecstatic Tom Bradford warned that he and tuner Rob Schopf would likely settle with their day 1 qualifying performance while preparing their Balbayis Asset Consulting/Hal's Speedshop Buell for raceday. And they followed that plan to a "T" today, breaking in a new tire in round 3 and making a strong move off the line in round 4 before encountering a shifting problem.
qualifying round 3
4th Tom Bradford right lane 7.157 at 191.21 mph
qualifying round 4
4th Tom Bradford left lane 10.187 at 83.80 mph
"We didn't break anything when the bike wouldn't shift, so we're all good," reported Bradford. "We got good data and we were going the right way. We had the best 60 foot time of the session (1.093) and the data we got out of the run, as far as our tire and clutch were concerned, was right where we want it.
"So it wasn't a big bell ringer today in terms of performance, but it was a good strategy day. We're solidly fourth with a top 5 qualifying effort and that's obviously our best. If we keep going like this we're gonna get a No. 1 qualifier one day."
Bradford starts race day off with V-Rod rider G.T. Tonglet in the first round. "It's gonna be a good deal," said Bradford. "I ran against him the first round this morning and I'm looking forward to it tomorrow. I'm really excited and I feel like our odds are pretty good on this side of the ladder."
Tom thanked sponsors Balbayis Asset Consulting, Hal's Speedshop, Hal's H-D/Buell, Vanson Leathers, Stitch-it-Embroidery, CRD Inc., T-N-S Machining, S&S Cycle, Buell Motor Co., Mustang Shelly's Roadhouse, Red Line Oil, MTI Coatings, Autolite, Simpson, Wiseco, Rinehart Racing, and The Carburetor Shop for their support of the Hal's/Thunder Eagle team.
