*** Utah 'Does The Dew' Tour ***

Salt Lake City, Utah -- 09/18/2007
The 2002 Winter Olympics put Utah on the
map for international sports competition. Now
the state will further seal its reputation as one
of the world's greatest play places by hosting
the biggest extreme sports competition in state
history.

This weekend the EnergySolutions Arena, home
of the Utah Jazz, will be extreme sports headquarters,
no whistle-blowing refs allowed. Downtown Salt Lake
City will host the Action Sports Tour: Dew Tour this
Thursday through Sunday. Billed as the Toyota Challenge,
AST is bringing the biggest collection of professional
skaters, boarders, BMX bikers and motocross riders to
the Beehive State, one of only five nationwide stops.

The festival-style event will span nearly three city blocks
of downtown Salt Lake City in and around the Energy
Solutions Arena. Competitions include: vert and park
skating; BMX vert, park, dirt and supercross; and Free
Style Motocross.

Crews began work last Monday building countless ramps,
rails, pipes and tabletops, turning the downtown area into
a daredevil's paradise. The buildup will take a staff of more
than 50 people working 10 days to complete.

Rivaling the preparation of the competition areas is the
media's setup to capture every tail-whip, no foot nac and
Mctwist. NBC will have 12 cameras at each site and four
trucks to support its high definition live broadcasts during
Saturday and Sunday's competition. Friday's coverage will
air on USA.

Vans, Verizon, Slim Jim, Panasonic, Toyota, Play Station
and Mountain Dew are just a few of the sponsors that will
have interactive booths for festival-goers to sample new
products, play games, get autographs and of course "swag."
The outdoor festival will be stocked with food and drinks
for spectators to grab as they bolt from one event to the next.
A mini skate park and BMX dirt course will also be open to
children.

Since nothing goes better with extreme sports than loud
music, the festival provides spectators with an ample amount
of tunes. Full P.A. systems at each of the event sites, as well
as in the festival area will provide a nonstop soundtrack of
rock, hip-hop and metal for the entire event. A live concert
featuring Chevelle and The Photo Atlas will kick off after
competition Friday night.

Shaun White -- also known as the flying tomato and one
of the most exciting athletes in both skateboarding and
snowboarding -- will attempt to maintain his undefeated
status in the skate-vert competitions on tour thus far. While
Ryan Sheckler, star of MTV reality show "The Life Of Ryan"
will look to get back on top after taking second in the skate
-park event of the tour's previous stop. BMX greats Dave
Mirra and Ryan Nyquist, as well as BMX-vert point leader
Jamie Bestwick will pedal into Salt Lake City to thrill fans
of all BMX events. High-flying Nate Adams is the current
leader in the FMX, standing only 71 points above Adam
Jones who took the top spot at the Portland contest.

These competitions are serious business to these athletes,
said Jeff Sturgis, director of events at the arena.

In preparation for the Salt Lake date,
Sturgis traveled to the tour's Baltimore competition.

"These guys were out there practicing with trainers,
working out, they're definitely pros."

They're also guys that stand to make a lot
of money in both prize money and endorser bonuses.

Sturgis believes the tour to be even better than ESPN's
X Games, citing the tour's concentration on fewer events,
media coverage, interactive element and simply "a better
looking show."

"This is like putting on a full rock concert, mini
Olympics and street festival all at once," Sturgis said.

Fans have already shown their excitement for the event,
showing up to watch early stages of setup and buying tickets.

Despite being what organizers call a "walk-up event" as far
as ticket sales go, Salt Lake City has had better pre-event s
ales than any of the three previous tour stops. Organizers
expect attendance to be between 40 and 50 thousand over
the three days. Thursday's prelims and practice sessions will
be free with the purchase of any other Dew Tour ticket.

"We're excited to try this new type of event," said
Scott Williams, EnergySolutions Arena senior vice
president.

The tour, arena and Salt Lake Sports Commission have
partnered together with the goal of keeping this event
coming to Salt Lake City for the next three years, Williams said.

"We expect a strong attendance during the competitions,"
Williams said. "Through big events like this and others,
Utah is really becoming known as a place of sport."

*** Dew Tour Olympic Qualifying Showdown ***

Salt Lake City, Utah -- 09/19/2007
BMX is a big deal and will be an even bigger deal
in Salt Lake City, when nearly 100 of the world's
top athletes will fly in from all over the world to race
in a UCI BMX Supercross competition- and what's
more is that this is the ONLY qualifying event in the
United States to determine selection for the 2008
Olympics in Beijing!

Riders will hit the track Saturday September 22 at 2:30pm
for Practice and will then head into 1/8 and 1/4 Finals at
3:30pm, with Finals beginning at 5:00pm.

The BMX SX competition will begin with each rider
receiving two timed runs through the track (alone),
after which all riders will be ranked according to their
fastest run time. Only the top 64 riders will advance.

The top 64 riders then advance to bracket competition
and based on their fastest run time are seeded and placed
in brackets, where heats of eight riders are will continue to
race.

All of the big names in BMX SX will be in Salt Lake and
they definitely see this as an important race when it comes
to UCI ranking points and potential selection for the Olympic
Games. Among the top athletes racing are Robert "Afro-Bob"
De Wilde, Kahlen Young, Michal Prokop, Mike Day, Randy
Stumpfhauser, Bubba Harris and Joey Bradford, to name a few.

This is the third consecutive year that the Toyota Challenge
will host this white-knuckled elimination style race that involves
the most insane race course the Dew Tour has ever seen.

The 1,000 foot-long Supercross track takes 300
truckloads of dirt and four days of work to construct.

So what's the difference between BMX Racing and
BMX Supercross you ask? Let's just say it has something
to do with the massive 25-foot roll-in start ramp and (up to)
35-foot gaps throughout the course; features that are more
than enough to explain where it got the name "Super".

BMX SX has covered a lot of ground over the last few years
and will be making its Olympic debut in 2008 in Beijing - a huge
step for the BMX industry. In BMX SX, points are given to
individual athletes and to countries in the UCI Nations ranking,
which qualifies competing countries into the 2008 Olympic
Games in Beijing.

The Toyota Challenge is not only hosting the world's best
BMX racers, its hosting the world's next Olympic athletes
and possible champions. Don't miss seeing the world's fastest
and most talented BMX Supercross racers attack the Toyota
Challenge course, all hungry for a win.

*** Dew Tour Looks To Create Buzz In Utah ***

Salt Lake City, Utah -- 09/16/2007
There will be backflips and tailwhips, lipslides and nosegrinds,
Supermen and Lazy Boys, 360s, 720s, 900s and 1080s. But
the greatest trick will rest with event organizers at this week's
AST Dew Tour stop in Salt Lake City.

Forget the skateboarders, BMX riders and freestyle motocross
daredevils, some of them like Shaun White and Ryan Sheckler
the biggest names in their sports, who will compete for four
days starting Thursday.

They're simply responsible for the show, which will be broadcast
nationally by NBC. The task facing organizers, by comparison, is
to sell a major-league action sports event to a population that at
first glance seems an unlikely match.

After all, Utah is the ultimate Code Red state - no, we're not talking
Mountain Dew products - giving 71 percent of its vote to President
Bush in 2004. That didn't deter organizers, though, from adding Salt
Lake to the five-city lineup for this year's tour.

"We really got the sense that Salt Lake understands how to take on
big events and make them bigger," Dew Tour president Wade Martin
said, adding, "It's hard to have any expectations in a first year, but
we believe there's a strong fan base for action sports."

The bar certainly is set high for the event, which will take over
EnergySolutions Arena and a neighboring parking lot. At this year's
first three stops - in Baltimore, Cleveland and Portland, Ore. - four-
day attendance averaged more than 53,000.

It took nearly two years to bring the Dew Tour to Salt Lake, with
the Utah Sports Commission, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. and Ogio
International Inc., a Bluffdale-based gear bag manufacturer,
championing the cause.

Even so, there are obstacles to overcome. There's no guarantee
participation numbers in snowboarding, motocross and a host of
other activities will guarantee spectator turnout. There's also the
Sunday factor to consider.

While the Jazz opt not to play Sunday home games, a nod to the
area's LDS Church leanings, the Dew Tour will serve up White, Bob
Burnquist and Bucky Lasek in the skateboard vert finals, as well as
the BMX park finals with Ryan Nyquist and Dave Mirra.

"It's definitely something we looked at and discussed through
out the process," Martin said. "I think perhaps it impacts Sunday
attendance, but in the overall picture, it was worth it."

Utah Sports Commission president Jeff Robbins notes that the city
turned out on Sundays during the 2002 Olympics and hopes the Dew
Tour will receive similar support.

"It's a great image-building opportunity nationally and internationally,"
Robbins said.

What started with 25 cities in contention ended with Salt
Lake as one of three new cities added to the tour for 2007.

They're not easy to get,'' Robbins said of the events,
"so once you get them, you're certainly hopeful the
community embraces them and you have enough success
that they want to come back."

Novelty approach

If you listen to the athletes, they're happy to be anywhere but
Southern California, where ESPN's X Games have returned five
years running. There's a novelty in coming to Utah that's appealing
to a crowd always searching for the next groundbreaking trick.

The turnout traditionally has been good in Salt Lake, Mike Mason
(freestyle motocross) and Kevin Robinson (BMX) said this month,
whether for arenacross racing or Tony Hawk's traveling Boom
Boom HuckJam tour.

"I'm a big fan of bringing our events to cities that aren't saturated
with the things that we do," said Robinson, who landed the first double
flair at the 2006 X Games.

The Dew Tour prices tickets at $5 for kids and $15 for adults in
encouraging families to come out. There's an educational benefit
for the adults in that. As Robinson said, "A lot of the kids want to
do what we're doing and the parents just have no idea."

One of the biggest backers of action sports also calls the area home.
Not only does Ogio make bags for everything from skateboarding to
motocross, but the company also has a training facility for its athletes
with skate and BMX park courses and a foam pit.

"For us, it's our backyard, and Utah's a great action sports community,''
said Andy Bell, Ogio's vice president of promotions.

The hope is the Dew Tour will sign on for another two years. For his part,
Bell predicted crowds would be on par with other cities and noted that
Sunday attendance typically is a third to half of the 20,000-plus who turn
out Saturdays.

Age more than a number

What worked most in Utah's favor was simple demographics.
It has by far the youngest population of any state in the country,
with a median age of 28.3, according to the Census Bureau.
(Texas is No. 2 at 33.1.)

That puts half the state in the age group most likely to be fans of
Sheckler, the 17-year-old skateboarding wunderkind with a new
reality show on MTV.

Judging from the number of skateboarders and BMX riders zigzagging
around the concrete bowl at Lone Peak Park in Sandy one day last week,
the Dew Tour will be able to draw from that base of kids and young adults.

"Guarantee it's going to do good out here,'' said Mike Smith, 23, of
Sandy.
"Skateboarding is huge in Utah. It's weird. In Salt Lake City and Cedar
City and Orem and Provo, it's bigger than it is in Las Vegas and Phoenix,
[everywhere] other than California.

"I think it's because the snowboarding and skiing might have something
to do with it. I don't know. We've also got tons of skateparks, too. . . .
I love it. We need more events like that" in Utah.

One person who will be attending is Huntsman, the Republican governor
who proves action sports fans defy groupings into red states and blue
states.

A regular motocross rider, Huntsman has been unable
to race since undergoing shoulder surgery in July.

Huntsman will take part in a Dew Tour news
conference Tuesday and stop by the event Saturday.

Of course, nobody could sum up the tour coming to Utah
quite like Mason, who lives in Carson City, Nev., and calls
this his home event.

"Salt Lake City seems kind of like an active town,
always into something, you know?'' Mason said, adding,
"I think there's going to be nothing but positive vibes
from the Dew Tour coming here."

What's the difference between
ESPN's X Games and the Dew Tour?

As freestyle motocross rider Kenny Bartram puts it, the X Games
is built for the best TV show while the Dew Tour is built for the best
competition.

The tour consists of five stops (one a month) similar to what golfers
have on the PGA Tour. There are winners at each event, as well as a
points champion that is crowned at the end of each season.

"The athletes are kind of like a family almost because we see each
other once a month for five months and we all just kind of bond over
each stop, hanging out," said Mike Mason, who ranks third in freestyle
motocross after three events.

"The X Games, I think it's such a high pressure event that every athlete
kind of sticks to his or her own thing. You don't really get to hang out
much."

The Dew Tour also has a development arm, the Free Flow Tour, which
helped give rise to BMX rider Mike Spinner. The 19-year-old has since
become the first rider to land a 720 tailwhip in competition as well as a
1080.

"That's something the Dew Tour has that X Games doesn't," said Andy
Bell, Ogio's vice president of promotions. "They're building from within,
building from the core."

Through three events, Shaun White (skateboard vert) is the only
three-time winner. The other points leaders are Ryan Sheckler
(skateboard park), Daniel Dhers (BMX park), Jamie Bestwick
(BMX vert), Ryan Nyquist (BMX dirt) and Nate Adams (freestyle
motocross).

"Having the point system's awesome because it gives you something
to strive for and gives you a reason to want to hit all the contests,"
BMX rider Kevin Robinson said. "And having five stops, you can have
one bad event and still make up for it at the next event."

The Dew Tour stop in Salt Lake also will feature a BMX
supercross event, which will debut at the Beijing Olympics.

Dew Tour News -- 09/13/2007
Possibly the biggest news of the summer has just
been announced; the AST Dew Tour's five month
summer sport series will expand to include three
additional months of winter competition!

The AST, along with title sponsor Mountain Dew,
and NBC Sports, will launch the AST Winter Dew
Tour with the first of three events in December of
2008 and will continue into January and February
2009, with the two remaining events.

Already the biggest Tour in action sports, the Dew
Tour will take it to the mountains for competitions in
both freeskiing and snowboarding. Both male and
female athletes will be on the roster and potential
disciplines include superpipe, slopestyle and cross
in both sports.

Similar to the Dew Tour's summer competition structure,
the Winter Dew Tour will be based on a cumulative points
system with a Dew Cup champion crowned in each discipline
at the final winter stop.

The energy and excitement is high amid the Dew Tour,
as this expansion will make the AST Dew Tour a year-
long competition series that involves five sports.

Check back soon to find out if one of the host mountain
resorts will be in a city near you, and stay tuned for more
exciting details around the Tours in action sports – the
AST Dew Tour and the AST Winter Dew Tour!

*** Some Distraught Over Loss Of Skate Park ***

Anderson, SC -- 09/13/2007
Zack Cotton's shoulders slumped forward, and
he held his face in his hands. From time to time he'd
wipe away tears, take a deep breath and return to
his defeated position.

Just to the left of the concrete slab where he sat on
Wednesday, a bulldozer destroyed the skate park
where he came nearly every afternoon to skateboard.

"I got out of school early today and thought
it was going to be a good day," he said.

Instead, the 16-year-old from Anderson got a phone
call from a friend telling him about a bulldozer destroying
the deserted concrete slab on Shockley Ferry Road where
he and many others skated.

About 15 boys wandered around and watched early
Wednesday afternoon. For a while they did jumps off
one remaining concrete slab onto another, the bulldozer
working beside them.

The guys said the park, which sits on the lot next to Dollar
General and Exxon, was being torn down because the property
owner said it was a liability for them to skate there, and because
it was trashy. The owner could not be reached for comment
Wednesday.

Derrick Lowry, a father, was nearly as upset as the kids
were as he stood there and watched. He was dropping a
co-worker off at nearby apartments when he saw the lot
being torn apart.

"This is breaking my heart, and I'm a grown man,"
he said.

His son and daughter skated at the site, and for the past five
years he's helped build ramps and jumps for the skaters.
The skate park has been there at least 10 years, Mr. Lowry said.

Robin Stamps, a mother, stood in the blazing-hot parking
lot for a while, watching. She worried that now that the
park is gone, the kids will not have anywhere to go and
will instead get into trouble, she said.

Since her 15-year-old son Frankie Bryant has been skating
at the park the past year, he's stayed out of trouble, she said.

"I know where my kid is when he leaves the house,"
Ms. Stamps said.

The family lives just across Shockley Ferry Road from
the park, and Frankie had walked over to skate and saw
"the best place to skate" being torn apart.

"It's stupid 'cause it's the only place that keeps
us out of trouble, and that's free," he said.

The next closest park is Fire Lake Paintball 'N Catfish
on Cheddar Road off U.S. 29, and it costs $10 a day
to skate there.

Mr. Lowry expressed similar sentiments.

"It's going to end up pushing these
kids out on the street somewhere," he said.

As the afternoon stretched on, the kids began
loading up what pieces of their park were left.

Nineteen-year-old skater Travis Holder drives from
Greenville to skate at the park. He just happened to
be in Anderson today when he received the call.

"This is messed up," he said. "This is like family."

Zack Cotton, 16, wipes tears from his eyes as fellow
skateboarders take one last ride through a makeshift
skatepark on Wednesday near River Street and
Shockley Ferry Road in Anderson. Bulldozers destroyed
much of the concrete surface the skaters would practice
on, leaving them without a place to ride.

*** Volunteers Key To BMX Track Success ***

PORTAGE, IN -- 09/13/2007
Many Portage-area residents are aware of
the growing number of entertainment and
sporting activities available to local youth.

Construction along the U.S. 6 corridor has recently
added an IMAX theater and countless retail spaces
and the city has well-established community and school
sports programs.

Another venue, often overlooked by motorists going up
and down Indiana 149 near Portage, has been carefully
maintained by volunteers for seven years.

Nestled near a wooded area south of the industrial park
on the city's northeast side, Imagination Glen Outdoor has
been the beaten path for hundreds of BMX enthusiasts.

In 2000, Jackie Altizer helped to gather residents from
the Duneland area who believed the community would
be well-served by having a bicycle track carved out of
an underutilized section of park land.

When they built it, said Altizer, who now resides in
LaPorte, BMX was on the cusp of a resurgence in
popularity.

"When we started here, there were only 26 riders in the
state," Altizer said. "We have probably 600 currently."

Imagination Glen Outdoor, along with Steel Wheels indoor
track in Hobart, are the only American Bicycle Association
-approved facilities in Indiana.

Operating a "100-percent non-profit, 100-percent volunteer"
facility as Steel Wheels BMX, Altizer said she and other
organizers strive to promote a family-friendly atmosphere.

With a support staff that is as ready as eight eager racers
leaning toward the starting gate, volunteers have the bases
covered, from manning the concession stand to completing
paperwork to packing and raking the track surface.

"The group of people we have here are really phenomenal,"
volunteer Maria Roach of Portage said. "We've got a good
base of people."

Maria and husband Dennis Roach were recently honored
on the the Steel Wheels BMX Web site as one family that
has been involved since the track was opened. Their sons
Danny, 13, and Mitchell, 11, have won several local ABA
trophies.

Ten local BMX boosters complete the majority of up-keep
at Imagination Glen Outdoor, as well as Steel Wheels in Hobart,
Altizer said. In some cases, acute care is required. After the
headline-grabbing rainfalls in August "demolished" the track,
a core group of men put in day-long efforts to restore the
1,000-plus feet of track.

Altizer said such dedication allows the track to effectively
host practices on Tuesdays and Fridays, and races on
Thursdays and Saturdays.

"We do it for (the benefit of) our boys, and for everyone
else's kids, too," Maria Roach said. "But we couldn't do
it without Jackie. She breathes BMX."

*** 6ft 7in BMX Rider Gets Fined ***

Scotland, UK -- 09/13/2007
A man who is 6ft 7in has been convicted
of dangerously riding a child's BMX bike.

Andrew Notman, 28, was spotted by police officers
swerving past pedestrians along a footpath in Galashiels
on 11 June.

Two police officers were injured in a fracas after stopping
Notman and had to be assisted by a member of the public
as they tried to handcuff him.

Yesterday, Graham Fraser, prosecuting, told Selkirk
Sheriff Court: "Because of his height and build, he
proved to be a difficult customer to deal with."

Notman admitted riding a bicycle that was too small for
him dangerously on a footpath and causing danger to
pedestrians.

He also pled guilty to charges of struggling
violently with police officers and making threats.

Fining Notman £50, the sheriff said:
"This was all unnecessary."

*** What's To Come Of Yakima Fairgrounds? ***

Yakima, Washington -- 09/13/2007
There nothing behind the Sundome -- at least for now
-- whatever's gone there -- all seems to just disappear
after awhile.

But state fair officials say it's not that
easy putting the property to good use.

They've tried many ventures, such as a
BMX race track, but that died as well.

The latest involves a fast-paced sport that made it
to the finish line a lot sooner than anyone expected.

The price tag: a half million dollars to build the dirt stage.

The race tracks was supposed to be a huge summer
attraction. Now it sits empty, except during the state fair.

It's the same story for nearly every other business
venture on the property: it wasn't a moneymaker.

"I think it's ridiculous," said
Yakima resident Tonya Heady.

But at least it's still being used.

The rest is empty land with big potential.

But county officials don't know what to do with the
nearly 135 acres so they opened the county coffers
and spent six-figures on two consultants who researched
what could be done with the property.

One idea: an equestrian center, but
years later there's no money to build.

"If you take the time to survey the people that they want
to entice to come there, that would be more effective,"
said Yakima resident Nancy Weaver.

But state fair officials argue it's
a lot more difficult than it looks.

It's just like any other business venture: everything's taken
into account: the state fair's age, it's location and then there's
revenue.

They'd like whatever comes its way to bring in
some bucks and they won't give up until they win.

State fair officials say between all the concerts, sporting
events and of course the fair the property probably
brings in more tourists than any other place in Yakima.

There's news that someone's looking into
building a 3-hole golf course for kids out there.

*** Skate Parks Get A Bum Rap ***

Seattle, Washington -- 09/13/2007
Concerns that skateboarders will vandalize and
trash our community are unwarranted and immature.

We've seen how a skate park can compliment a
neighborhood, such as the one in Ballard, and even
build a sense of community among those of all ages
and interests. Isn't it discrimination to outcast a group
merely because they enjoy a certain activity?

It's disappointing to see comments like the following that
was posted on the Herald's Web site under last week's
story on the effort to get skate parks built here under the
citywide skate park plan.

A citizen wrote... "We will not support this type of activity
so close to our homes. We have tolerated enough noise,
dirt, strange odors, construction crew disturbances, etc
during the last year + (with) the Myrtle Reservoir project..."

They are referring to a proposed skate facility at the new
Myrtle Street park, an idea that has so far been hotly
contested by some neighbors.

But instead of reducing all skateboarders to delinquent
miscreants, try welcoming them. Research has shown
that many fears and generalizations associated with the
popular sport are just untrue.

Any public area can attract bad behavior. When centrally
located, skate parks can often deter delinquent activities
because skaters populate the park.

If built well skate parks aren't noisy. A concrete park
generates about as much sound as a conversation
between two people.

They are also proven to be relatively safe,
when comparing injuries from other sports.

"The issue is what recreational opportunities we provide
for our kids. Skateboarding offers healthy exercise and
can be easily monitored - which isn't true of playing video
games or surfing the Internet. Kids these days can get into
as much or more trouble sitting at their computers than they
can skateboarding in a public park."

*** Gold Lures Stars To BMX Track ***

Bendigo, Australia -- 09/13/2007
BMX competitors from near and far raided Eaglehawk's
track on Sunday to contest the annual Bendigo Goldrush.

Among the many highlights of the day's racing was the battle
for the $500 cash up for grabs in the 14-plus open money class.

The race winner was Michael Chasteauneuf as he held off the
challenges from many of Bendigo's stars on their home track.

One of the country's most exciting prospects in the sport,
Bendigo's Kyle Horton was third overall.

Horton, 14, starred at this year's national championships
and is gearing up for the state titles and possibly another
crack at Australia's No. 1 plate in his class.

The run of Bendigo placegetters in the feature event include
Jamie Truan in fourth place, Josh Hastings being sixth, and
Brock Tuckerman being eighth.

Competitors from as far afield as Mildura, Shepparton,
Sunbury, and many Melbourne-based clubs were in action
at the Goldrush.

Bendigo BMX Club spokesman Michael White said
the Goldrush drew 78 riders to compete in various classes.

"We had competitors as young as six to people in their
50s racing around the track," White said of the day's
action at the Victoria Street circuit.

Classes ranged from Sprockets for six and seven year-olds,
through to Cruiser, and then the 20 inch, and open.

"Entry numbers were up by 30 on last year, which was the
first Bendigo Goldrush that had been run for a while," said White.

"A goal for next year is to surpass the 100-rider mark."

The Goldrush drew plenty of support from Melbourne-based
clubs such as Werribee, Knox, Park Orchards, South Eastern,
and Eastfield.

In the nine boys' action, Bendigo's own Matthew White
followed up his success in the Northern Rivers series and
metro plate by winning on his home track.

Club-mate Joshua Dole was runner-up.

Although he had to race in a higher age group,
Jacob Jones raced well to be sixth in the 13 boys' division.

The Sprockets action included Bendigo clubmates Samuel
Buckell and Bailey Jones in the six-years, and Isaac Buckell
in the seven-years.

Bendigo BMX was also represented by Colin Ironside,
Jordan Hall, Thomas Hore and Matthew Hall.

Many competitors will now focus on Eastfield's
meeting to be run on September 23.

*** Dew Tour Salt Lake Lowdown Spillin’ It ***

Salt Lake City, UT -- 09/12/2007
Spillin’ It: Salt Lake Lowdown The countdown is on!
The Toyota Challenge lands in Salt Lake City, Utah
September 20 for four days of the best skate, BMX
and Freestyle Motocross competition in the world.

The 2007 Dew Tour season has been off the chain so far;
with everything from insane new tricks to breakthrough
rookies, Salt Lake City is ready to deliver some fine action
sports entertainment to fans and athletes alike.

Toyota is bringing the off-road experience to the Toyota
Challenge with Ride & Drive. Fans can go head to head
against their friends in a Toyota Prius – the same vehicle
that Bob Burnquist rolls in. Bragging rights and prizes are
up for grabs for anyone who puts their driving skills to the
test and competes on the Bob Burnquist Prius Course,
situated in the Outdoor Festival area.

As the fourth of five tour stops, the Toyota Challenge will
feel an intensity that’s been building since Baltimore, and as
Portland showed us, anything is possible and top spot is
anyone’s game… it just takes that one rider to step it up
and claim top spot on the podium.

Thursday, September 20 – Gates Open at 2:00 pm

The Outdoor Festival opens at 2:00 pm and will be open
every day – there are tons of chances to grab some great
swag from the Dew Tour Sponsors and try out all of the
interactive games. Things get kicked off right with a full
day of qualifying mayhem, starting with BMX Dirt Prelims
outside at 3:00 pm.

Skate Vert Practice starts at 2:00 pm and Prelims go off at
3:30 pm where Shaun White is looking to make history with
an undefeated Dew Tour season. The rest of the day is no
different; competition goes until 10:00 pm!

Catch Vans Invitational heavy weight Greg Lutzka fight for
a second title and newly made TV reality star Ryan Sheckler
attempt to re-stake his claim in Skate Park Prelims at 6:30 pm.
Hit up the course early and catch the boys practice their runs
at 4:40pm.

Head inside and catch Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron
practicing ramp-side at 6:00pm for the BMX Vert Prelims
at 7:30 pm or head outside, where FMX will be capping
off the day’s competition with Prelims, also at 7:30 pm
(practice starts at 5:00pm).

With any Dew Tour ticket purchased
you get your Thursday ticket FREE!

Friday, September 21– Gates Open at 2:00 pm

Practice for the BMX Vert Finals gets underway at 2:00 pm,
and the Finals kick-off at 4:00pm. Check out the best of the
best bust it out all for the Toyota Challenge title – the first to
be awarded in Salt Lake City.

The day’s competition ends with BMX Dirt Practice at
5:00 pm followed by the Dirt Finals at 6:30 pm. The best
10 from Prelims advance to Finals. If this competition is
anything like it was at the Vans Invitational, you’re in for
record breaking runs.

The day is not done with Dirt! Don’t miss the Dew Tour LIVE
concert right on the BMX park course. If you’re a music and
bmx fan it doesn’t get much better than this! Chevelle hits the
stage at 9:00 pm and fans will be ready to break it on down.
Admission is free with your Dew Tour ticket stub.

Saturday, September 22– Gates Open at 11:00 am

Get an early start to your Saturday by hitting the
Outdoor Festival area at 11:00 am! The FMX riders
will be up bright an early too; check them out in Practice
at 11:00 am and again in Finals at 11:45 am.

Get a glimpse of the season’s most progressive and insanely
talented FMX riders, these guys are the “ones to watch” and
will show the crowd what it takes to stake the claim.

The BMX riders hit the ground rolling at 1:00 pm with
BMX Park Practice at 1:30 pm and Prelims at 2:30 pm.

Spinner, Dhers and Mirra will be cranking out everything
they can in every style and variation imaginable. If you missed
Spinner’s winning 1080 in Portland, do not miss the chance of
seeing it again in Salt Lake.

Special to the Toyota Challenge is BMX SuperCross where
Salt Lake City will see all the BMX SX Olympic contenders
in action beginning at 2:30 pm with Practice. Then at 3:30 pm,
these guys will begin to face off with 1/8 and 1/4 Finals action
at 3:30 pm, followed by a last and intense Finals competition
at 5:00pm. Dew Tour is host the only qualifying event in the
United States to determine selection for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Skate Park Competition will end the evening right; riders will
be hitting the course, to nail those final runs and tricks, at 5:00
pm for Practice and will flow straight into Finals at 7:00 pm.
Who will it be? Lutzka? Sheckler? P-Rod? Rogers? There is
far too much talent on Tour to predict this one.

Sunday, September 23– Gates Open at 12:00 pm

The fourth and final day of Salt Lake competition chaos
will see BMX Park riders hit the course for Practice at
12:00 pm and line-up to drop-in for BMX Park Finals
at 12:45 pm.

Salt Lake Skate Vert competition will leave a sweet taste
on your action sports palette, when it closes the Toyota
Challenge with the best of the best busting out on the vert
ramp. Practice begins at 1:30 pm and Finals get underway
at 2:45 pm.

Reigning champ, Shaun White will be focused and fully
dialed for competition, as well as veteran skaters Bob Burnquist,
Sandro Dias and Bucky Lasek. White has owned the vert ramp
so far this season, paid in full; but as we all know from experience,
anything is possible, especially in a five-stop battle like AST Dew Tour.

*** BMXers Put On A Show Downtown ***

HAGERSTOWN, MD -- 09/12/2007
Rock 'n' Ride event draws crowd of 300 to 400.

Top-of-the-line BMX riders showed off their stunt
moves Saturday during the Downtown Live! Rock 'n' Ride.

"The bikes were amazing," said Jordan Miller, 14,
of Hagerstown. "It's the stuff you see on TV."

Jordan and his friends spent most of the day at the event,
which was held behind the Baltimore Street Station car wash.

Brianna Green, 13, wanted to see
the bands that performed Saturday.

"Rocking out" was the best part, she said.

Jayden Butts, 14, went to the event for the bands,
which included Dropout Year, The Hint and Hotspur.

Also performing was Calisus, the winner of the
July 28 Downtown Live! Battle of the Bands.

Jayden also was impressed by the BMX riders.

"They were amazing," she said. "I wish I could do that."

Brianna and Jayden were among a group
of teenage girls dancing in front of the stage.

Between 300 and 400 people dropped by the event
throughout the day, said Toni Britton, director of
marketing and events for Demcore Entertainment.

A BMX show was a natural fit for
downtown Hagerstown, Britton said.

"Every day, I see kids on BMX bikes," she
said. "I knew it would be a hit down here."

Saturday's crowds were "pretty good," but mellowed
out as the day went on, said Dan Sieg, one of the six
BMX riders who performed.

The riders were the "cream of the crop," and have performed
at the X Games and other national competitions, Britton said.

*** Urban Fest Draws Crowds To Moscow ***

Moscow, Russia -- 09/12/2007
Hundreds of thousands of young people have been
gathering in the Russian capital for the country's biggest
street festival. There are no traditional sports, but those
taking part are living their dream.

A raving crowd surrounded Moscow's Luzhniki stadium this
weekend. 250,000 teenagers from the capital and Russia's
largest cities gathered for Urbania - the country's ultimate
street festival.

With its Russian name translated as ‘City and Me’,
the event's focus is on urban sport and entertainment.

The top attractions this year were BMX disciplines involving
specialised bikes with several metal pegs for performing various
tricks. When successful, it's fascinating, but less lucky riders face
serious injuries.

There was a place for any wheeled object at the festival
- whenever it’s accompanied by an adrenaline-addicted
sportsman, of course.

Some of those competing at the festival didn’t need props or
vehicles to show off their talents. Two decades after the break
-dance culture's first appearance in Russia, a new generation of
talented dancers is emerging.

Urbania is not only about sport - art is also
covered - at least its street variety - graffiti.

Those not showing off  - as well as those tired of watching them
- grouped around the main scene that hosted the final of a musical
contest held in ten Russian cities - to pick the best alternative band.

The rap core and new metal musicians were through to
the finals, but the audience didn’t welcome all of them.

Plastic bottles, lighters and chocolate bars became the ammunition
for the less sober members of the audience. Even though the
youngsters had enough energy to try breaking the police cordon,
they gave up without any violence.

After all, they were just having fun
- as all the teenagers do worldwide.

*** Skateboarder Killed By Dump Truck ***

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- 09/12/2007
A teenager was fatally struck by a dump
truck Monday afternoon in Maple Valley.

King County sheriff spokesman John Urquhart said the 16
-year-old Tahoma High School student was skateboarding
when he was hit in the 26800 block of Witte Road Southeast.

The victim, a teenage boy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Neighbor Mike Donah heard the brakes screeching,
called 911, and then ran to help the boy, identified
only as Dustin.

"He had a very light pulse," Donah said.
"There was nothing we could do until aid came."

Medics quickly responded, but the boy died at the scene.

Deputies blocked off Witte Road while they investigated
the crash, but Urquhart said it was too early to know
exactly what happened.

"He was a beautiful boy," said Elise Karhu, whose daughter
was Dustin's boyfriend. "Just a sweet, happy camper, very
creative, very loving and charismatic."
