SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- 09/10/2005
Ryan Guettler won the BMX Dirt competition Friday night
in the Toyota Challenge at HP Pavilion, the 22-year-old
Australian rider's third consecutive victory on the Dew
Action Sports Tour.
Guettler, also the winner in the Right Guard Open in Denver
and Vans Invitational in Portland, Ore., had a score of 93.63
- an average of the best two of his three runs - to move 58
points ahead of countryman Corey Bohan in the season standings.
"For the entire tour, I have been up against awesome competition"
said Guettler, who highlighted his winning run with a one-handed
frontflip.
"I'm going to keep giving it my best every time."
Australian Luke Parslow was second with an average score of
92.75, followed by Ryan Nyquist of Los Gatos, Calif., at 91.50.
Also Friday, Robert De Wilde of The Netherlands won the
International Cycling Union BMX Supercross World Cup finals
with a time of 30.091 seconds. Luke Madill of Australia was
second in 31.928, and Kyle Bennett of Montgomery, Texas,
finished third in 32.717.
The four-day competition is the fourth of five stops on the
first-year tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle
motocross.
The Skateboard Vert and Freestyle Motocross finals are
Saturday night and the competition will end Sunday with the
BMX Park and Skateboard Park finals. On Thursday night,
Jamie Bestwick won the BMX Vert for his third straight
victory on the tour.
The tour will conclude with the
PlayStation Pro on Oct. 13-16 in Orlando, Fla.
