*** Bestwick wins third BMX Vert competition ***
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- 09/09/2005
Jamie Bestwick won the BMX Vert competition in the
Toyota Challenge at HP Pavilion on Thursday night, the
British rider's third straight victory on the Dew Action
Sports Tour.
The 34-year-old Bestwick, also the winner in Denver and
Portland, Ore., scored 94.5 points on his first run to become
the first three-time winner on the first-year tour. He also took
the lead in the season standings, five points ahead of Kevin Robinson.
"It's big pressure being in first now, but it doesn't bother me,"
Bestwick said. "It won't cause me any harm. I think everyone
is going to try to knock me off now. I'm in the driver's seat and
feeling it. It's just been a great season."
Robinson, from East Providence, R.I., was second Thursday
at 91.25, followed by Simon Tabron of Britain at 89.75.
The four-day competition is the fourth of five stops on the tour
that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross.
BMX Supercross and BMX Dirt finals are Friday, and Saturday's
schedule features the Skateboard Vert and Freestyle Motocross
finals. The competition will end Sunday with the BMX Park and
Skateboard Park finals.
The tour will conclude with the PlayStation
Pro on Oct. 13-16 in Orlando, Fla.
