*** Wenatchee`s Saddle Rock deal looming ***

WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON — 08/18/2005
The city Parks Board and two groups will meet with a state
official in early September about a proposal to buy Saddle
Rock from the state.

Greg Jones, president of the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council
and a city parks board member, told the Sports Council last
week that George Shelton, regional manager of the state
Department of Natural Resources, will be in town on Sept. 14.

Shelton will meet with parks board and members of the
Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and the Wenatchee Valley
Trail Coalition.

Jones said later in an interview he’s optimistic a deal can be
reached for the community to buy the saddle-shaped rock
formation and 320 surrounding acres from DNR. State officials
have said they are interested in selling the property because it’s
school trust land that generates no money for schools.
