*** Ridge to River Spectator & Road Closure Info ***
Wenatchee, Washington -- 04/09/2005
Traffic will be restricted on some roads, but spectators
will have almost limitless opportunities to watch the race
as competitors make their way from the Mission Ridge
Ski Area to Riverfront Park in the Ridge to River Relay
on Sunday.
Here are a few pointers for watching the race:
•Parking and access are limited for viewing the start of the race
at the ski area, the hand-off between runners and bikers at
Squilchuck Park and at the bike/boat exchange at Wenatchee
River County Park.
•Watch bikers as they grind their way up Skyline Drive,
speed along Western Avenue or make the sharp turn at
the bottom of Maiden Lane.
•The Sleepy Hollow area north of Wenatchee
offers a good vantage point to see bikers and paddlers
•Perch anywhere along the Wenatchee and Columbia rivers
for good water action -- and maybe an opportunity to rescue
a capsized competitor
•Catch the end of the boating leg and the
final dash to the finish line in Riverfront Park
Meanwhile,
several road closures and lane restrictions will be in place.
They include:
•The uphill lane of Squilchuck Road, from the intersection
of Methow Street to Squilchuck State Park, and the Mission
Ridge Road will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A no-passing rule will be imposed in the downhill lanes simultaneously.
•The on-ramp to the Penny Road and Cordell Avenue
intersection will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•The off-ramp from Wenatchee Avenue to Easy Street
will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
•Inks Road and School Street will be
closed at their intersections with Highway 2.
•Chatham Hill Road, Lower Sunnyslope Road and Sleepy
Hollow Road will be closed in both directions between
Chatham Hill and Monitor from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•The access road to Wenatchee River County
Park will be controlled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•Traffic will be limited on Monitor Bridge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
•Pedestrian traffic on the Apple Capital Recreation Loop
Trail will be interrupted in Walla Walla Point Park on
Saturday and from the Orondo Avenue boat launch to
Riverfront Park on Sunday.
