*** Bike track proposed for Sunnyside on council's radar ***
FlagStaff, Arizona -- 11/05/2004
Sifting through the city manager's weekly report to the city
council can reveal some real gems. For example, an equipment
operator at the landfill went above and beyond the call of duty
last week by sorting through garbage hauled in from Williams to
help a man find a set of rings worth $3,500 that was accidentally
thrown away.
Meanwhile, at City Hall, the city council is set to approve the second
reading of an ordinance that grants up to $100,000 to Air-Zona
Systems Engineering and sells the company about four acres of city
-owned land in the Pulliam Airpark. The engineering consulting firm
handle mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fuel and fire sprinkler design
work for companies across the country.
The 10-year-old company currently has 25 employees
making a median annual salary of $48,850.
Company officials expect to add 10 new employees for
the next five years, according to the city staff report.
The council will also discuss and take public testimony on a proposed
BMX bicycle track at 2250 N. Izabel St. in the Sunnyside neighborhood.
If approved, the 2.24-acre parcel of city-owned land would be
rezoned from multiple-family residential to public lands district.
The park will be built on two raised islands in the center of a
detention basin built for flood control. The basin is planned as
part of the Fourth Street Overpass project. Bicyclists would use
a series of four concrete depressions in much the same way
skateboarders currently use the concrete bowls at Bushmaster Park.
Park or no park, city officials say the detention basin must be
built to accommodate other construction on the overpass further
downstream.
The site is part of a larger 10-acre parcel acquired by the city in
2001.
The northern end of the property is planned for city-sponsored
affordable housing project, according to the city staff report.
