*** Kirkland police to crack down on "pocket bikes" ***

City police this week said they will crack down
on the use of "pocket bikes" on public streets.

The increasingly popular bikes are minimotorcycles sold in
auto-parts stores and over the Internet, but they are not
designed for public street use, police said.

The bikes will be subject to the same laws as regular-size
motorcycles, police said, meaning users could be cited for
not having a license, license plates, lights, mirrors or a helmet.

The small bikes also do not meet various
height requirements for motorcycles.

The fine for such penalties is $101 each.
