*** IRC Opens Seattle Office, Puts Rice Bran In Rubber ***
SEATTLE, WA -- 10/01/2004
Industry veteran Skip Reys recently came on board with
IRC Tire as general manager and established the IRC
North America office in Seattle.
Reys, formerly K2 Bike's director of product development and
marketing and Raleigh's product manger, is now responsible for
IRC's aftermarket sales, marketing and sponsorship.
In other IRC news, the company under license created a rubber
compound that incorporates the new field of "rice bran ceramics."
After being discarded in the production of food, the outer husk
--or bran--of an individual rice grain is ground, mixed with phenolic
or epoxy thermosetting resins, and then kneaded into IRC bicycle
rubber compounds.
This process improves traction, according to the company,
because the bran ceramic acts as tiny balls with needles and
pores randomly oriented throughout the tire tread. The needles
grab the road while the pores absorb water.
The IRC Redstorm RBC, a high-end road racing tire,
is the first to use the technology.
It weighs 205 grams in a 700x23c size.
Contact information for IRC North America is as follows.
