Warrnambool, Australia -- 08/12/2004
South-West BMX riders are gearing up for the final
two rounds of the War Of Stars series this weekend.
The eight-race series will culminate with rounds at
Portland on Saturday and Warrnambool on Sunday.
About 25 Warrnambool riders are expected to compete
against about 100 entrants from the south-west and Geelong area.
Two of the riders going head-to-head in the series are
Warrnambool's Samantha Malone (rated No. 1) and
Allansford's Natasha Kelly in the 12-year-old girls' division.
Warrnambool boys are also dominating the 11-year boys with
Mick Williams, Joel Best and Johnathan Malone holding down
the top three places in the series.
Matthew Williams is No. 1 in the eight-year boys with
Rick McMahon sitting at No. 3. Matthew Kelly is also
leading the nine-year boys. Luke Pretlove is heading the
pro open class with clubmates Jayson Best and Jason Stephens
equal seventh.
Warrnambool BMX Club president Allan Malone said
Warrnambool riders were looking forward to the competition.
``We would certainly appreciate some nice weather.
It's been a pretty tough season for the riders. It's been
very wet and we've had a few riders miss competitions
with colds,'' he said.
``I hear entries for this weekend are already good so
everyone is looking forward to a top weekend of racing."
