*** Plans For New Skate Park In Yakima ***
YAKIMA, Wash -- 09/20/2007
New ideas were getting tossed aroung in a meeting with
area skaters and city recreation officials Thursday night.
The plan is to build a skatepark worth almost $300,000
in Yakima's Kiwanis Park.
Local skaters who attended the meeting say they are
excited about the contractor the city is looking at, Grindline.
They say the company is know internationally and could give
Yakima a lot of attention.
One might say, Yakima already has a skatepark
at Chesterly Park, why do we need another?
Apparently it is not liked by some skaters.
"A lot of people want the park because right now we don't have
a decent park, it may look nice but everything is messed up and
kids just don't like skating our park. It's just no built right, it wasn't
built by skaters and people just don't like to skate," said Danny
Houfek after the meeting Thursday.
City recreation leaders say once everything is made official
they expect to start building the park early next year and
have it completed by the summer.
