There's a reason player salaries in the FL are lower
than in say, the Northern League. A decision was made
in 1992 before the league ever started playing for it
to be a "developmental" league, with younger players
and lower salaries. No other league has an age limit.
The league could raise salaries and attract better
players, but would it be worth it? The fans who read
these boards ar the die-hards, but we represent only a
tiny portion of the annual attendance.
I do think that when a business decision is made, the
players are merely an afterthought. Heck, we don't
even have a real clubhouse here (RC), after seven
years in the league, and your guys are still dressing
in trailers too. And these two teams have set all
kinds of attendance records. Some of the fields,
especially in the early years, have been atrocious.
The Redcoats' series in Lorain last season was a
reminder of how far the league has come since 1993,
but it's still not that far away in some cases.
Remember, as much as we love our teams, it's still a
business and the team has to turn a profit to remain.
"This field, this game...it's a part of our past... it reminds us of all that
once was good and could be again."
