For anyone not there tonight you missed a great game. I am thinking about going
to Evansville on Friday if the series is still going. Hopefully the trip won't
be necessary. I'm wondering if the Grizzlies are planning any kind of
celebration when they win the championship.
GRIZZLIES EDGE OTTERS IN CHAMPIONSHIPS OPENER
The Grizzlies slipped past the Evansville Otters 2-1 Monday night to take a 1-0
advantage in the best-of-five Frontier League Championship series.
The Grizzlies got a pair of two-out, RBI hits from Oscar Vargas and outstanding
pitching performance from starter Scott Patterson.
Vargas drove in Phil Warren in the second inning to put the Grizzlies up 1-0. He
drove in Warren again in the fourth to make it 2-0.
The only run Evansville scored came on a lead-off home run by Carlos Brackley in
the ninth inning.
Patterson went the first 7 1/3 innings, without yielding a run on seven hits. He
struck out nine. He earned the win, his first of the post-season. Dave Klahs
pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing the run on the home run. He struck out
four, to earn his third save of the post-season.
The Grizzlies and Otters will continue the series with game two Tuesday night at
GMC Stadium. Tickets remain for the game and are available by calling the
Grizzlies at 618-337-3000. Game time is 7:05.
