Evansville heads to finals
Simpson shuts down Chillicothe
On Saturday night, the Evansville Otters beat the Chillicothe Paints 3-0 to take
the deciding game of the best-of-three series at Chillicothe's V.A. Memorial
Stadium. Evansville starter Andre Simpson went the distance for the Otters,
allowing only three hits and striking out nine. The big blow for Evansville was
Juan Downing's fifth-inning solo home run. Terrence McClain and Carlos Brackley
added RBI singles to round out the scoring. The Otters advance to the Frontier
League Championship Series where they will face the Gateway Grizzlies, who swept
their series with the Washington Wild Things on Thursday. It will be the third
trip to the finals for Evansville. The Otters fell to Johnstown in 2001 and
Canton in 1997. The first game of the best-of-five Championship Series will be
Monday night at Gateway's GMC Stadium with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
CDT.
