RASCALS DROP SERIES FINALE TO GATEWAY 6-1 AT GMC STADIUM
The River City Rascals failed to sweep the Gateway Grizzlies for the
first time in franchise history on Saturday night as Joe Dooley's
solid pitching led Gateway to a 6-1 win over River City at GMC
Stadium.
Gateway scored the opening runs for the first time in the 2003 SONIC
Crosstown Clash on a 1st inning 2-run home run from Todd Oetting. The
Rascals would cut the lead in half on an RBI double by Josh Ury in
the 3rd inning, but that would be all of the River City scoring for
the evening.
Dan Shouse (1-5) pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, as
three of them came in a 4-run 7th inning for the Grizzlies.
Dooley (2-2) pitched 6 innings and allowed just one run on 5 hits
with six strikeouts. Jason Brester and Dave Klahs combined for three
shutout innings to seal the win for Gateway.
Brian Fuess' 1st inning single extended his hitting streak to 9
games, while Ury finished 3-4 on the evening.
