Re: [GardenStateKayakRacing] Only the hardcore show up for the D&R rac

Hi all,

Just want to say few words here.  I had a great time.  The weather was far less than optimal but made for a memorable day because of the cold and rain.

Being dressed properly makes the difference, and I stayed dry, warm and cozy for the entire race.  My GMER dry suit is worth every penny I paid for it.  I felt good about my performance, aside from the paddlers in my heat that left me far behind, no one passed me, and I manged to reel in a bunch of other paddlers from previous heats.  My average speed worked out to be 5.4 mph over the course of the race, reasonable speed for the type of boat I used.  (Artisan Millenium)

The first two takeouts at the portages suck big time.  Not easy to get out of a kayak gracefully.  Water levels were about 3 to 4 inches lower than 2 weeks ago and I had no problem getting under the first bridge this time.

Hopefully, I'll be comfortable with the surf ski next year and will use that boat.

blanket, the couch, and some football on my mind but showed up to
race anyway! GSKR did very well overall. Andy completed his first
race today! Way to go Andy and I'm sure we will see him alot next
year. Ray Z showed up with bells on but no sign of scott "the
slacker" sucar. Something about a playoff game for basketball in a
warm gym with shorts and t-shirts.
Ray had a good race and finished 4th in the kayak division with a
time of 1hr 58 min. Not too shabby for his first D&R race! Good ole
Joe Ervin wins the kayak division, with the Impens team winning the
canoe division and I believe overall honors. Way to go dad!! This
was our first race in the new Pro Boat. 1 race 1 win I like those
percentages.
No sign of Lars or Sean in their K-2. Guess they were scared! You
see at Mayors cup Sean threw down a challenge for me and my father
to finish in our canoe within 20 min of him and Lars in their K-2.
LOSER buys the BEER. Since they didn't show I guess we win. Fosters
or Becks will be just fine boys!! Looking forward to next season and
try not to get too fat over the winter. I think GSKR has come a long
way in a short period of time and I can't wait to see you all next
season.
