What if a Russian wasn't a Bad Girl?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #878 of 919 |

Hello to all!

It is always nice to hear from any of my new friends and/or old fans here on the yahoo message board.  I would be greatly honored if any of you choose to respond and make comments.

I have wondered for a very long time what it would have been like to have been a "good girl" in GLOW.  Not because I thought there was anything wrong with being a "bad girl".  I liked my very tough and clever colleagues.  Some of which were comrades and some of which I just tolerated because Aunt Kitty loved us all!  But it is the way you the fans would have perceived me differently.  This I fine most curious…

It has taken a few decades and the changes in all the world that include a different feeling toward international politics.  I have grown older and wiser just as we all have.  With my years of experience in the United States I have come to appreciate the freedom of the American way.  It is obvious that the old ways of the Socialistic systems are indeed flawed.  The days of the "Cold War" made it difficult for anyone to have a calm discussion about our differences.  We were inclined to be committed to one side or the other.

Now all this is over and gone.  We can all express ourselves freely and be open to a variety of opinions about our home and country… So it seems that being Russian (even a former Soviet Russian), is not the reason alone to be despised by an American.  So what would be the differences of a Russian now-a-days in the wrestling ring?  Any ideas, I'd love to here what you all think about this?

Back in the day of GLOW and POWW, I did not have to do anything beyond being Russian to be hated by the crowds.  True that my ability to pulverize the many smaller American women didn't help me gain any love from most of you.  Yet, I know many of you have come to respect the skills and strength of a powerful competitor. Da?

Things were still different back when Ninotchka turned, because she betrayed all of her team –"Kitty's Killers".  She disrespected the importance of the GLOW crown and threw it and all of her responsibilities away and literally ran off to Paris.  I imagine that is part of the reason that the fans did not embrace her return to the ring as one of "Stallone's Sweethearts".  It just did not seem right… In addition she seemed to let her skill and strategy slip away.  So we lost everything that we had come to respect in Ninotchka.  Or not?

Here we are now, in the present day with a different world view about the lovely land of Russia.  Just another country that offers a diverse pool of talent and pride.  By our very heritage, Russians are a strong people in both our history of art and excellence in athletics.  A long line of generations of superior training along with a unique struggle in a very difficult environment.

So how would you view a tall, strong -but sweet, proud and elegant Russian lady now?  Let us consider Miss Tatiana.  She does not come from the military training, she is not hard core in anyway.  She is a woman of the arts and enjoys all the treats of living in America.  If you saw her at a party, she would be smiling and dancing, singing and carousing with all the ladies and men.  She would not be threatening to sit and talk with, simply friendly and fun to get to know.  Her stories of Russian would likely include times about visits to the great music halls and theatre, the beauty of the ballet.  Or how she grew up with a great influence of family and tradition.

How would this sweeter personality effect your feeling for Miss Tatiana in the wrestling ring?  To see this lovely and sweet foreigner exercise great skills and strength while smiling at the fans… Would this make you want to cheer for her?  Of course it would!

But what then when she is asked to face one of her own.  To face another smiling "good girl" in the ring…  Would you not then be required to consider the lady with the greatest of skill and strength?  Does this lady hold strong to her integrity?  Is she going to take out her opponent in a fair and respectful way or stoop to a lower standard, often seen in a battle between the good and bad?

This is were I see a difference that some of you may not have considered before.  Roxy Astor is an uppity, rich (even spoiled) woman of the jet-setting New York crowd.  She would not have difficulty pulling fun of some aspect of her opponent.  We have seen the "mean" streak in her before.  She and her partner Tiffany Mellon could really get going making fun of someone they have targeted.  Now what if this is a very nice respectful lady?  How would that play to the fans?  Who would you really want to cheer for?

Can any of you imagine what this match might really be like?  I hope so.  This would be a great time to hear from those of you that have some ideas about this kind of thing.  Especially those of you that just could not cheer for a lady that did not represent the "good".

Please submit your comments here on the message board.  And don't forget to put in your vote for Miss Tatiana as the champion of the Artwork Gener Yahoo group.

I still have hopes of facing my opposite (Miss Tatiana) someday in an ultimate challenge.  If you make her a tournament champion, then maybe it can indeed come to pass.

Thank you all for your participation in the Yahoo groups!

Tanya
