The GHORBA Christmas Lights Ride is just a couple of days away! We hope all of
you will join us for this worthwhile event, which benefits the Houston Police
Department's Blue Santa Program. Entry is $5 per person, but additional
donations are most welcome. Checks should be written to the HPD Blue Santa
Program; cash also accepted. All riders are required to wear a helmet and a
blinking rear light....Bike Barn will have them for sale if you don't currently
own one. Please arrive around 6:30 so we can get you registered (sign waiver)
and break the riders into smaller groups. We will provide maps for everyone.
The ride will begin at 7:00 p.m. and be approximately 10-12 miles in length. We
will ride at a slow pace so all can enjoy the lights.
Directions: From I-10 take the Shepherd/Durham exit and head south
approximately 2 miles. Once you pass Memorial/Allen Parkway be looking for West
Gray. Take a left on West Gray and go about 3 blocks to Woodhead. The Kroger
will be on your left.
From I-59 take the Sherpherd/Greenbriar exit and go north. You will pass
Richmond, Alabama, Westheimer and San Felipe Streets. West Gray will be about
4-5 blocks north of San Felipe. Turn right on West Gray and go about 3 blocks
to Woodhead. Kroger will be on your left.
GHORBA would like to thank Weingarten Realty for allowing us use of the parking
lot, for KILT for the radio coverage, and HPD for their continued help and
promotion of the event.
BYKE PROJECT EVENT: As some of you know, GHORBA was given several new bikes to
give to kids in need. Hector Garcia, the head of the Byke Project, is planning
an bike event for Saturday December 20th. Typical activities include repairing
kids' bikes, watching BMX stunts, listening to music, and teaching kids a few
things about bikes. GHORBA will present the donated bikes to several children
at this event. If you are interested in helping repair bikes or working with
the kids, please email me or Keith for directions.
